UCLA and Georgia Tech finally played their season-opening college basketball game in China after nearly a week of drama surrounding an alleged shoplifting incident involving three Bruins players. UCLA great Bill Walton, who was doing color commentary for the ESPN broadcast, wants everyone to know that the school and everyone associated with it is very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very sorry for all of this.
Very.
I am sad, disappointed and embarrassed. This is a very big deal, Walton said as the game tipped off late Friday night on the U.S. East Coast. The noble purpose here has been stained. Our host, Alibaba China, the people, they have been better than perfect in everything. Theyve done everything right to make this all work. Now members of our family have displayed an appalling lack of honor, a lack of respect, a lack of decency by doing something in someone elses home that they would never do in their own. And I want to apologize right now on behalf of the human race for this travesty.

You're too kind. I was hoping they would be sentenced to live in Chicago!
How did UCLA do against Georgia without these three?
Looks like Bill is throwing his white privilege around with the Chinese.
I was going to say that....WHO says they haven’t done similar?...infact, its almost guaranteed they have and have been given a pass time after time....
Good point. Why should a white apologize on the behalf of privileged dindus?
Patty Hearst's ordeal, complete with Bill Walton's bit part, still holds America in thrall
"Additionally," Mr. Walton continued, "I'd like to apologize on behalf of all crustaceans, reptiles, plants and related fauna, mammals including egg laying e.g. platypus, sea-life in general and all intergalactic alien races we hope to meet some day."
They won.
Won 63-60.
Go back to listening to your Grateful Dead albums, Bill.
Excellent.
Let’s see what UCLA does to them once they return from China...
Thought these guys hated America and loved free places like China and Cuba.
It’s only sincere, if it makes sense...
The whole human race? Like China isn’t part of the human race?
Sheesh, lock these utes up for a while...probably do them some good. And don’t BLM types consider prison time some sort of “badge of honor”? Ok, so prison ...Asian style....
They’ll name a building after them for their “martyrdom”....
Heres hoping that wont be anytime soon.
Disregard his soulless mutterings.
“Additionally,” Mr. Walton continued, “I’d like to apologize on behalf of all crustaceans, reptiles, plants and related fauna, mammals including egg laying e.g. platypus, sea-life in general and all intergalactic alien races we hope to meet some day.”
ROFLMAO! I love FReepers. Smartest, funniest people ANYWHERE on the Dub-Dub-Dub-Ya! ;)
When I think about our citizens held hostage abroad, without hope of rescue.
When I think about Michael Fay, the subject of international attention in 1994 when he was sentenced to six strokes of the cane in Singapore for theft and vandalism at age 18.
I just have ZERO sympathy for these bums in China. They deserve a fair trial and sentencing commensurate with the crime they committed and no different than any Chinese citizen would expect.
