Steve Bannon Offered to Stump for Ed Gillespie But Was Rebuffed by the Campaign

Steve Bannon offered to stump for Republican candidate for Virginia governor, Ed Gillespie, but Gillespie's campaign declined, according to multiple reports.

The decision, which preceded Democratic opponent Lt. Governor Ralph Northam trouncing Gillespie at the polls on Tuesday, left Bannon's camp fuming, per the ABC.

Bannon was also frustrated with Gillespie's refusal to appear on his Breitbart radio show or do any interviews with the conservative media outlet.

“Ed Gillespie had no message, was inauthentic, spoke from both sides of his mouth, and at the end of the day, even the deplorables couldn’t save him,” Andrew Surabian, Bannon’s political adviser, told the Daily Beast on Tuesday. “Gillespie campaigned with George Bush, but ran from President Trump.”

The lobbyist, former Republican National Committee chair, and President George W. Bush administration alum did not go “full Trump,” Surabian said.

Despite embracing President Trump via rallying points, like preserving Confederate statues, dismantling sanctuary cities, and criticizing NFL player protesters, Gillespie did not appear alongside the president on the trail.

Though Trump recorded a robocall and tweeted in support of Gillespie in recent days, he quickly distanced himself from the candidate after his election loss. He "did not embrace me or what I stand for," Trump tweeted Tuesday night.

Bannon has said he is waging war against the Republican establishment, backing successful insurgent candidate Roy Moore over Trump's choice Luther Strange in the GOP's Alabama Senate primary.

Good. No point helping the GOPe rebuild. Glad Gillespie lost. Next time, run an America First candidate

“Steve Bannon Offered to Stump for Ed Gillespie But Was Rebuffed by the Campaign”

Curious as it seems to me Gillespie is the type of politician Bannon is railing against. Gillespie is a Busher. He disavowed Trump. He’s not what we would call a Trump team player by any means, so why would Bannon offer to stump for him?

It’s good he turned Cannon down. If Cannon had been a part of the campaign and the ring still lost .....

Gillespie had no fight in him. He was running like it was still 2001 and Geo. W. Bush was president.

Forget about percentages. I think Gillespie got something like 600,000 fewer votes than Trump.

There is no chance that the GOPe will cease to shoot itself in the foot.

This is only good news if someone takes the reins from their hands.

If you want votes from Trump supporters you better sound like Trump and work like Trump////

Nobody sounds like or works like Trump than Trump himself and he still lost Virg to hillery.

Now I’m irritated that l took the time to go out in the cold and rain to vote for that loser.

Re: “Forget about percentages. I think Gillespie got something like 600,000 fewer votes than Trump.”

OK.

So, you are claiming that the raw vote numbers are more important than the percentage of the total vote, correct?

In that case...

2.2 million Virginia voters voted against Trump in 2016.

But, only 1.4 million Virginia voters voted against Gillespie.

How many third-party candidates ran yesterday, and how many votes did they get?

Comparing percentages for one candidate over another in different elections is a waste of time. Third-party candidates got more than 5% of the vote in Virginia in the 2016 presidential election. If you strip out the third-party votes in both 2016 and 2017 and only compare the two major party candidates, Trump actually did a hell of a lot better than Gillespie.

Re: “Third-party candidates got more than 5% of the vote in Virginia in the 2016 presidential election.”

I agree.

All of those voters had the chance to vote for Trump.

Instead, all of those voters chose to vote against Trump.

So, if I understand your new theory, the most important number we should pay attention to is the margin of votes between the top two candidates, is that correct?

In that case...

Clinton beat Trump by 212,000 votes.

Northam beat Gillespie by 233,000 votes.

Trump wins! Trump Wins!

Oh, wait, I forgot, both Trump and Gillespie lost Virginia.

Gillespie was a RINO in just about all facets of his beliefs. He deserved to lose.

That’s the lesson from Nov. 7th for RINOs.
Come to the `dark side’ and get on board or get left behind.
MAGA. No GOP=e need apply.

Don’t feel bad about voting.

The Never Trumpers are to blame.

Gillespie is part of the Republicane group. He didn’t have any message which connected with Tump & voters.

Bannon is like a bloodhound-—and he is a natural for finding great candidates for the 2018 election cycle.

I predict that Ryan & many others will be ‘retired’ by the voters & that Trump supporting Republicans will increase in Congress.

ESPECIALLY if Comey, Shrillary, Obama & others can be indicted by June, 2018.
