The party had previously held majorities in both the Senate, where Democrats had a 24-16 advantage over Republicans, and Assembly, where they had a 52-28 edge.
They expanded that control last night, picking up one seat in the upper house and, though the final votes have yet to be tallied, likely two in the lower.. An upset in the 11th District helped bump the partys Senate majority up to 25, while victories in the 2nd and 16th districts gave them a boost in the Assembly. Republicans also secured seats in tightly contested races in both houses, though they were offset by losses
The night, therefore, was seen as a win for Democrats, who will enter the next legislative session exercising broad jurisdiction over setting the states agenda and tackling some of its most serious problems.

With Phil Murphy’s win, it’s ‘full steam ahead’ for legal marijuana
Yes, this doesn’t bode well for productive people in NJ.
Remember -- this is a state where the legislature had to draft a mid-year budget adjustment in 2015 when one taxpayer (hedge fund billionaire David Tepper) had moved to Florida because of the ridiculous tax burden in New Jersey. It was estimated that he paid something like $100 million in state income taxes the prior year.
NJ has voiced their opinion now bend over.
Blue states in the same sort of shape that the Soviet Union and East Bloc were in about 1980, so no surprises here, eh?
Two new monster mosques now being built in Somerset County alone.
Yup. Prepare to get Malloyed.
...and flocks of NJ transplants fouling up Florida.
First of all, a congressman supporting the tax bill had zero to do with this. Second, Murphy is an idiotic liberal and he is not going to “disappoint” leftists. He is every bit as much a leftist as DeBlasio. Finally, the gubernatorial results were in no way a surprise.
NJ - Bluer than Blue
I will be gone within a year.
We're #1! (At least when it comes to the states that people are moving out of!)

I'll go not too far out on a limb that's not too far off the ground and predict something that should be obvious: The trend will accelerate now.
I'll go not too far out on another limb: the ratio of taxes paid to benefits received is not the same for those who are entering and for those who are leaving.
My daughter lives and works in Pennsylvania. One of her co-workers lives at the Jersey shore. Most of New Jersey is within commuting distance of Pennsylvania.
And then there is (relatively) tax-free Florida.
If there is any consolation, New Jersey will probably be up to it's eyeballs in FBI, DHS and ICE for years.
(If he walks, or if he lands in the hoosegow -- either way Menendez is only a start.)
“I will be gone within a year.”
sounds like a plan.
good analysis
remember corzine?? he didn’t moderate.
I have made my life in New Jersey, and I love it here.
But I am not going to stay.
I know where I am going. I am starting to minimize my New Jersey footprint. I know the date that I am moving out. It is a long way out, but I have the date.
I am transferring stuff now. In a few years, I will sell the house and get an apartment. After that, the family is moving, and I will get a studio. By the end, I will be in a rented room in Newark, and the only things I will have in New Jersey will fit in a garment bag.
On my last day of work, at the end of the day I will get in my car, hop on I-78 and never look back. After 35 years in New Jersey, I will have been a visitor, who was bilked by the state at every opportunity, and glad to leave.
The town of Clinton has gone full Muzzie with their welcoming signs. We won’t even go there anymore.
People move out of NJ once they cannot afford it.
I visited NJ last weekend. Several people in their 40s and 50s told me that they would be leaving when they retire because they cannot afford to live there as retirees. They were all democrats. One was honest enough to explain the connection between politics and work in NJ - if you are not in “the party” you are not going to go very far. Seemed like a political mafia. None made the connection that their problems, their high auto insurance, high tax burden is because of the way they vote.
The down side is that they are able to move out with their democrat “values” to help ruin other places (see northern VA, also Florida, Austin, Sante Fe) rather than spend their retirement years paying for all of the programs/handouts for which they voted. My hope is that the laws of economics will finally catch up, but unfortunately the people who should be accountable and suffer the consequences won’t be the ones who built the house of cards on sand.
With total control of the state’s government New Jersey is now East California and we will see the same type of insane leftist policies that have destroyed West California. WHITE FLIGHT which will lead to higher taxes a sanctuary state and ultimately low economic growth.
