Full title:

Revealed: how Texas church gunman was shot by hero plumber Stephen Willeford and another passer-by before 100mph car chase

BENEDICT MOORE-BRIDGER David Gardner

Stephen Willeford, 55, grabbed his own rifle and rushed to confront Devin Kelley after being told an attack was underway by his daughter.

As he arrived outside the church he came face-to-face with Kelley.

Mr Willeford, a plumber with no military experience, shot him in the side through a gap in his body armour, forcing the killer to flee.

Mr Willeford and another passing resident, Johnnie Langedorff, then chased him at almost 100 miles per hour in a car as the wounded killer tried to make a getaway after taking a hostage.

Kelley is said to have killed 26 people – including a child aged five – when he stormed into the church on Sunday dressed in black tactical gear and armed with an assault rifle.

Freeman Martin, regional director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, said: “The suspect dropped his rifle, which was a Ruger AR assault-type rifle, and fled from the church. The man then chased the gunman.”

Mr Langedorff said: “He got a little bit of a jump on us. So we were doing about 95 miles per hour, going around traffic and everything.

“He just lost control and that’s whenever I put the vehicle in park. The other gentleman jumped out and had his rifle drawn on him and he didn’t move after that.”

Kelley was found a short distance away in his crashed vehicle, dead from a bullet wound. He had several more guns in his car, but the hostage was unhurt.

Police are still trying to establish whether Kelley died from Mr Willeford’s shot, or if he committed suicide.

Speaking at a news conference in Japan, Mr Trump said: “Fortunately somebody else had a gun that was shooting in the opposite direction, otherwise it would have been – as bad as it was – it would have been much worse.”

-snip=

He [mass murderer Devin Kelley] served in logistics readiness at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico, and was jailed for one year in 2012 on two counts alleging assault on his wife Danielle Shields and their child.

In 2014, he was kicked out of the military.

Old school friends described Kelley, who lived in nearby New Braunfels, Texas, as a “creep” who made no secret of his anti-religious views.

Nina Rose Nava, who went to school with Kelley, said: “He was always talking about how people who believe in God were stupid and trying to preach his atheism.’

On Kelley’s Facebook page, he appeared to have a fascination with guns. He had recently shared a photo of an AR-15 style gun with the caption: ‘She’s a bad b***h.”

Kelley’s mother-in-law, Michelle Shields, is understood to be a parishioner at the First Baptist Church and was friends on social media with First Baptist Pastor Frank Pomeroy and his wife.

Good shooting there Steve Willeford. Glad you were “Johnny on the spot” and did what needed to be done.

Sounds to me like he used a shotgun, 00 buck? Or maybe lighter? Got the shooter in the side, my guess is buckshot and then he bled out. Makes me want to use alternate loads, mixed shot and slugs.
Thank god others interviened or everyone would have died.

Bears repeating:

I think police are great, but you know what..?

they had absolutely no role in stopping this mass murderer.

they basically showed up and did the paperwork after it was all done.

EXACTLY correct. The “public” are the solvers of almost all crimes. Without their help the police would be useless (except for traffic stops for tag light violations resulting in searches for WEED.

The fleeing felon ‘rule’ is that a felon can be dealt lethal force if they’ve committed a felony such as murder and still pose a threat to the community. He was still armed ergo the defender is clear in his judicious use of force.

Any DA that even tries to go after him would be strung up by their nuts.

Why we’re seeing a near media blackout on this story:

Shooter was left wing antifa - one of their own

Shooter was Godless atheist - again, one of their own

Shooter was put down by a good guy with a gun - does not fit the media’s anti-gun narrative.

Re: my post 30

Quote from article:

"Ward posted on Facebook in November 2011 about his upcoming wedding, writing, 'getting married on Nov 5 to Joann: I love my baby and she brings me nothing but happiness. I love u Joann Ward.'..."

Clarification: Nov 5, 2017 (yesterday/day of the shooting) apparently was his wedding anniversary. ie, his wedding wasn't on the day of the shooting.

Post 30...

This boy is the son of the guy that CBS News and others had first reported to be the shooter! ie, Chris Ward

"[Chris] Ward’s mother, Sandy Ward, told the New York Times that her daughter-in-law and three grandchildren were shot, including her 5-year-old grandson, who was shot four times and was in surgery Sunday evening.

“I just started praying for everybody who was there,” Sandy Ward told the Times of when she learned what happened. She was not at the 11 a.m. service Sunday because of her troubled knees and bad hip, according to the Times.

Ward posted on Facebook in November 2011 about his upcoming wedding, writing, “getting married on nov 5 to joann i love my baby and she brings me nothing but happiness i love u joann ward.”

The victims of the shooting also include the 14-year-old daughter of Pastor Frank Pomeroy, who was shot dead at the church. Pomeroy and his wife were out of town in Oklahoma for a rare weekend away, he told ABC News.

Is it safe to say that Kelley is no longer an atheist? He absolutely chose his final destination as rejecting God leads to tragic results.

Well, he's still an atheist - for eternity. Now having stood before the Judgement Seat, he gets to know he really chose poorly.

Oops. I hit “private reply” when I meant to post here:

The driver said that they called dispatch during the chase, so the police knew what was happening and were guiding the effort.

To: Politically Correct

Exactly - the MSM will do anything to suppress the possibility that an armed citizen prevented an even greater tragedy. Thus the (unsubstantiated) narrative pushed by the MSM that the killer “committed suicide.”

Fox aired rumors of a possible hostage but nothing definite.

Would wager the plumber who shot through the gap in the armor is a successful hunter that doesn't suffer "buck fever"...guy has my respect.

“Doesn’t meet the “he was Antifa, atheist, ISIS, CIA, FBI, Deep State patsy” agenda pushing.

Only Alex Jones approved theories allowed here.”

I’m missing your point? You list “atheist” as one of your criteria. The guy was an avowed atheist.

Alex Jones/Infowars get today’s news yesterday, last week, last month, or last year.

Not exactly a gun expert here, but that is what I first thought as well: buckshot

But then: "Rifle-wielding plumber Willeford managed to shoot Kelley in between his body armour, with the bullet piercing his side, reports the Mail Online."

"when Langendorff managed to run the depraved killer off the road, the pair of heroes realized that Kelley had bled out after earlier being shot by Willeford, claims the local"

"He was court-martialed in 2012 on charges of assaulting his wife and child, and given a bad-conduct discharge, confinement for 12 months and a reduction in rank, Air Force spokeswoman Ann Stefanek said.

US President Donald Trump has described the 26-year-old killer as "deranged" saying  a the shooting was a "mental health problem at the highest level", but not a "gun situation".

Locals have described how Kelley was stopped by two brave men who fatally wounded the “deranged” killer before running his getaway car off the road.

Rifle-wielding plumber Willeford managed to shoot Kelley in between his body armour, with the bullet piercing his side, reports the Mail Online.

Texas Department of Public Safety Regional Director Freeman Martin also confirmed that the 55-year-old, known as an excellent shot in the small town, “grabbed his rifle and engaged the suspect.”

The resident said that Willeford and fellow local Johnnie Langendorff jumped in the latter’s truck and gave chase to Kelley – who had grabbed a hostage and had fled in an SUV.

But when Langendorff managed to run the depraved killer off the road, the pair of heroes realized that Kelley had bled out after earlier being shot by Willeford, claims the local.

His ex-Mother in Law went to the church. I wonder if that’s why he targeted that specific church.

It gets tiring hearing about how these shooters are such ‘nice guys’. They are creepy, some are just better at hiding it than others. This guy didn’t hide it.

MSM has no idea Baptist Churches have members, not parishioners.

lol.

And wasn’t it some info-babe on CNN that said yesterday the shooting happened during Mass?

The media is as godless as the atheist gunman.
