Public school in Minnesota requires English course aimed at eradicating white privilege

A public high school in Minnesota implemented a required, race-based English course aimed at eradicating “white privilege,” but it wasn’t billed that way to students or parents, according to a public policy organization.

“Pre-AP English 10 constitutes an abuse of parents’ trust, taxpayers’ money and — most importantly — vulnerable children,” Katherine Kersten, a senior policy fellow for the Center of the American Experiment, told Fox News. “Edina citizens should hold district leaders accountable for substituting political indoctrination for a real education.”

The Minnesota-based think tank started researching Edina public schools after they heard students, parents, and teachers in Edina complaining about the aftermath of the 2016 election, when 80 staff members — most teachers — co-signed an editorial in the student newspaper bashing President-elect Donald Trump and aligning themselves with the Democratic Party and Hillary Clinton. “Many of you [students] have made clear ... that right now, you don’t feel physically safe,” the article read. “Know that we will do all that we can ... to fight for you,” and that “we will teach rebellion against a broken world.”

Kersten discovered a required 10th grade English course adopted in 2013 by Edina, focused on colonization, immigration, and social constructions of race, class, and gender. Kersten published a broader finding in a cover story titled: “Whose Values? Educational excellence threatened by ideology in Edina schools.” Students, especially young, white males, said they constantly were humiliated.

One of the boys wrote on the “Rate My Professor” website that the class should be renamed, “Why White Males Are Bad, and How Oppressive They Are.”

Edina High School, located in an affluent suburb outside the Twin Cities, started experiencing lower test results and their ranking in the state started dropping since the race-based policies were implemented.

...“Understanding Critical race theory was a significant reason behind our school taking another step on our equity journey — incorporating a study of Critical race theory into our sophomore English classes,” Roehl wrote. “English teachers felt that our district’s mission to give all learners the ‘ethical values necessary to thrive in a rapidly changing, culturally diverse, global society’ could not be fully met without explicit discussions of race, racism, and Whiteness.”

Roehl complained about confrontation at parent-teacher conferences, but she said she was able to stay on track because of her PEG (Pacific Educational Group) training. She revealed that Edina schools started working with PEG in 2009 through diversity workshops and trainings that emphasize “courageous conversations that isolate race, and specifically, a study of critical race theory helped me reach the place I am today.”

Trashing of public education went full-throttle during the administration of George 1. It was already messed up by busing in the 1960s and 1970s messing up community based education. Even with that, states and local districts still made most of the education decisions.

Then George 1 came along. With the excuse of "getting US students prepared for technology", the gov butted in with money and programs. Now the gov writes the curriculum and tests and even decides which schools can stay open after screwing them up and has regulations for everything. Federal money has come with programs that bend things and with strings attached. Now, SURPRISE (not) they're rewriting history. Heck, they're even re-writing math.

If a school is going to talk about ‘privilege’ to prepare their students to be ‘global citizens’ than we must talk about asian privilege in asian countries, black privilege in black countries, arab privilege in arab countries and hispanic privilege in hispanic countries, and how horribly those with lighter skin have been treated historically in all parts of the world. There are very few places in the world where white folk can feel save; America is one of them. That should be respected. A. It is not located outside the twin cities. It’s western border is the City of Minneapolis. It would be called a Tier 1 suburb or a first ring.

B. It’s not as affluent as it once was. The wealthy are moving out farther west.

C. I would describe it as more of a liberal hippie younger population. During the last election I saw very few hillary yard signs yet they were more common in Edina.

D. Edina stands for Every Day I Need Attention.

Liberals have pretty much given up on attaining universal equality by raising the low performers up.

They now are working to dumb down high performers and drag them down to the level of the lowest performers.

Of course this is taking place in the government schools while the elites still send their children to private schools like Groton, Exeter and Sidwell Friends.

How can this course have anything to do with English? Is it supposed to be a literature course? Are the students being exposed to different writing styles, or is this a study of how bad the capitalistic economic system is compared to the communist/socialist system.

Nothing in the article mentions nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs , adjectives, subjects, predicates or even a dangling participle. I suppose not because if English is being taught none of it exhibits one iota of “white privilege.” It is impossible to claim “wp” in a science or math class filled with absolutes so I suppose an alleged English class was the only option.
