MILAN (AP) — Italian authorities say they have seized 24 million tablets of an opioid painkiller that were bound for Libya and which international narcotics experts suspect the Islamic State group has been selling and giving its fighters. Italian financial police said Friday that the shipment of the drug tramadol was en route from India to Libya when it was seized in the southern Calabria region. The interception came six months after authorities in Genoa seized another shipment of 37 million tablets.

Well of course. You’d have to be drugged to strap on a suicide vest!

Opioids the new demon, only criminals can obtain, it’s becoming illegal in this country to get pain relief. The war on drugs and semi legalization of weed gives the DEA a new way for the ends to justify the means it’s called family medical doctor, it’s way safer and easier for them to go after doctors instead of criminals. Really sad for a few I know that are cancer patients.

I don’t drink. I don’t smoke. I don’t do illegal drugs. I don’t abuse legal prescriptions and avoid them when at all possible. I have never taken an opiate. Have no sympathy for those who do.

I am surprised to read it was Tramadol. Tramadol is not as strong as most of the pain relievers on the market and was not controlled until a couple of years ago. You can develop a dependence on it but it is not in the same category as Vicodin, Dilaudid, Oxycontin and Hydrocodone. Seems like if they are looking for maximum sales numbers/ pain relief, they would have gone with the big guns. These fighters are not expected to live that long so who cares if they become addicted?

Tramadol...? Seriously...?

After recovering from knee replacement surgery, the Docs moved me from Oxycodone/Percoset to eventually Tramadol.

Tramadol is about like taking a few aspirins. I get more relief by taking a couple of Tylenol.

They can buy fentanyl or even carfentanil from China - the stuff is so powerful, 30 million doses could probably be carried in a briefcase.

Perhaps the opportunity availed itself.

After rotator cuff surgery, Mrs. Chandler found little relieve from opioids but was fine after she switched to naproxen.

I’ve always found excellent relief from painful surgeries with opioids- they got me through the worst of the pain and was able to switch to tylenol when the time came that the pain wasn’t as severe- not sure why your wife didn’t respond to opioids- but it’s very unusual

I don’t know much about drugs, but wouldn’t this type of drug tend to calm down their fighters rather than ramping them up for battle?

Correct. One Tramadol is the same as a couple of aspirin.

Yep, all the older junkies in the VA system have been moved off opiates and to Tramadol. VA says it has less chance of addiction. Well, yeah cuz it don’t make you high.

Had dilaudid IV in the hospital after last VA surgery...holy hell man. I felt like I was floating on a pillow. Felt GOOD, but didn’t feel recreational to me.

For many it is the only relief they get from unending, unendurable agony and you have no sympathy for their agony?
