SAN FRANCISCO -- A plan to split California into three separate states has cleared its first hurdle. Supporters are set to begin collecting signatures to qualify for next year's ballot.
"Creating three new governments three new legislatures, three new governors and then having to disrupt what we have as a state all our prison systems, our higher education systems," said political analyst Steven Maviglio. "I think diversity is what makes California great and this would actually ruin it."
If the measure were to make it on the ballot and be approved by voters it would also still need permission from Congress.

I thought they wanted to secede from the US. Now they want to stay and just mulitply their misery for the rest of us.
One immediate problem is how to divide the state debt and continuing obligations. Second problem is the proposed boundaries. Monterey wont want to be ruled from Los Angeles thats like day and night. Dividing the Great Crntrel Valley is problematical too. The details need to be worked out
Hopefully even if California votes for this, someone with brains will knock it down in Congress. What am I saying? Who there has any brains?
The latest scheme to stop Trump, with 4 more senators and several more electoral vites. It will totally work this tine!
Article IV
Section. 3.
Clause 1: New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new State shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or Parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.
That, and they also want to split in a way that preserves the left’s advantage.
If they really wanted to split, they’d do it along cleaner lines - allowing conservatives to have their own state(s).
As long as Northern CA has that hideous Bay Area, there is no chance it will ever be anything but what that state is now; some conservative outlying counties, but dominated by über-libs in the cities. Make SF and the rest I the Bay Area combine with the rest of the proggies on the coastline.
Total horsefeces. Northern CA gets screwed because it extends down to the Bay Area.
Ridiculous map...the Bay Area, Sacramento and Greater LA should be “Progfornia.” There is no way in hell the Bay Area and Sacto should be joined with Jefferson to the north. That guarantees “Northern California” would have two extreme leftist Senators. Absolute non-starter.
There is no way the rest of the country would go along with this proposal. Unless, maybe, you split Illinois into two states, Chicago one and the rest of Illinois two. The same for New York and maybe Ohio and Pennsylvania.
*rest of the Bay Area
Not the same group. Some want secession, while others want to split-up the State.
Actually Steven, liberals are 100% against any sort of intellectual diversity. so having their own state would make them happy. However, this idea will never get off the ground because the good folks of northern California would not want to be associated with San Francisco.
Constitution?
Don’t let that little pesky thing get in the way if a pipe dream.
This is how the commie bastards in California intend to get 6 senators. If the commie bastards pull this off, Texas needs to divide itself into 10 or 12 states.
This would create 4 new democrat Senators. No thanks.
There is no way to split these areas. Take Ohio, no one in a conservative area would wish to be stranded in a DimLib hellhole. If you lived in the mostly conservative Cuyahoga Valley there is no way you will vote to be part of a new state dominated by Cleveland.
With the right borders, two new California states would have 4 GOP Senators.
Dream on - Democrats in Sacramento will never accede to a scheme that would dilute their power and their votes even if Congress were to consent to it.
From that perspective, its already DOA.
What hurdles do proposed states 51 and 52 have to clear
before becoming a part of the USA?
