Washington (CNN) A federal grand jury in Washington, DC, on Friday approved the first charges in the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller, according to sources briefed on the matter. The charges are still sealed under orders from a federal judge.
Plans were prepared Friday for anyone charged to be taken into custody as soon as Monday, the sources said.
It is unclear what the charges are. A spokesman for the special counsel's office declined to comment.
Mueller was appointed in May to lead the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Under the regulations governing special counsel investigations, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who has oversight over the Russia investigation, would have been made aware of any charges before they were taken before the grand jury for approval, according to people familiar with the matter.
On Friday, top lawyers who are helping to lead the Mueller probe, including veteran prosecutor Andrew Weissmann, were seen entering the court room at the DC federal court where the grand jury meets to hear testimony in the Russia investigation.
Reporters present saw a flurry of activity at the grand jury room, but officials made no announcements.

Mueller is authorized to investigate "any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation," according to Rosenstein's order.
The special counsel's investigation has focused on potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, as well as obstruction of justice by the President, who might have tried to impede the investigation.
CNN reported that investigators are scrutinizing Trump and his associates' financial ties to Russia. Mueller's team has also examined foreign lobbying conducted by former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, former national security adviser Michael Flynn, and others. His team has issued subpoenas for documents and testimony to a handful of figures...

It was their best interest to keep the names hidden. That is the key here.
That is the common thing.
Now, you are seeing statements that the charges will land someone up to 50 years in prison.
Again, they know. So does Trump I suspect.
Monday will be interesting.
I'm trying to keep up with all this (and still get something done in real life...) and haven't seen that. Could you direct me to that statement? I'd love to see it. thanks -
Very good comments.
I check his comments daily and now about every few hours!
For those of us of a certain age and remember the commericals on TV, LS is the “EF Hutton” of Politics, when he talks I listen. Could this Manafort/Podesta = a flip and lead to Clinton/Uranium Gate etc etc etc.?....
Special Prosecutor can do whatever he wishes. Or am I wrong?
Pretty much, yes. Any criminal offenses which may have been committed can be investigated.
Article 2 Section 4 Impeachment. That is the only way to bring charges against the President.
“The party in DC will be over”
I’d drink to that or start drinking again to that ;)
So Mueller can indict but not impeach. Obviously.
No. He can’t indict. The President can’t be brought up on charges outside of Impeachment while in Office.
Hopefully, Don Jr. and Kushner are off the hook with the above tweets by Larry Schweikart.
Larry Schweikart @LarrySchweikart
1) buckle up: hearing whispers that Mulehead's focus in GJ sessions 100% Manafort/Podesta
2) ALL Podesta group
3) No Trump. No Don.
4) No Flynn
5) No Jared.
All Ds and Free Agent Manafort
6) Unclear if one of these reports same as Tucker's source.
7) As I suspected Manafort appears to be key informant. Plea already likely in hopper.
8) This isn't U1 yet.
9) If these sources right.
Ds from top down, to quote Negan, "better have yer shittin' pants on"
Don't care what they "try" or how they "spin". Arrests are arrests. It's all Cankles related. Now Mulehead works up the food chain.
Thanks for all the great information and insight.
Praying all these sources are validated Monday.
The demonic dems must be taken down for all their treasonous sedition!!!
Hopefully, Mueller will restore faith in our justice system by holding Cankles, etc., accountable!!!
Just passing along info and insight from LS or others - I’m merely a messenger!
Probably Sessions
Yep, That same guy who encouraged the firing of Comey immediatly and secretly enlisted the services of an independent prosecutor because Trump went ahead and fired Comey on his recommendation...He then hired the prosecutor who was a close associate of the person who got fired...
