The Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee helped fund research that resulted in a now-famous dossier containing allegations about Donald Trumps connections to Russia and possible coordination between his campaign and the Kremlin, people familiar with the matter said.
Marc E. Elias, a lawyer representing the Clinton campaign and the DNC, retained Fusion GPS, a Washington firm, to conduct the research.
Fusion GPS hired dossier author Christopher Steele, a former British intelligence officer with ties to the FBI and the U.S. intelligence community.
Elias and his law firm, Perkins Coie, retained the firm in April 2016 on behalf of the Clinton campaign and the DNC. Prior to that agreement, Fusion GPSs research into Trump was funded by a still unknown Republican client during the GOP primary.
The Clinton campaign and the DNC through the law firm continued to fund Fusion GPSs research through the end of October 2016, days before Election Day.
Fusion GPS gave Steeles reports and other research documents to Elias, the people familiar with the matter said. It is unclear how or how much of that information was shared with the campaign and DNC, and who in those organizations was aware of the roles of Fusion GPS and Steele. One person close to the matter said the campaign and the DNC werent informed of Fusion GPSs role by the law firm.
The dossier has become a lightning rod amid the intensifying investigations into the Trump campaigns possible connections to Russia. Some congressional Republican leaders have spent months trying to discredit Fusion GPS and Steele, and tried to determine the identity of the Democrat or organization that paid for it.
SNIP
Elias and Fusion GPS declined to comment on the arrangement.

It’s bad news, it’s
coming out for certain, and they (WaPo-Podesta-etc.) want to control it rather than lose control of the narrative.
Oh and it’s now “officially” already old news, been covered you know. Any other comments about it are “cold cuts.”
I would think the DNC would have had to be involved since it was their report.
I’m wondering that too.
It must be big to get W to talk. I mean really big.
I find the WaPo comments to be astonishing. They’re screaming that “opposition research isn’t illegal!!”. It wasn’t too long ago they were screaming that opposition research by Trump Jr. was some proof of an inappropriate Trump/Russia connection and that Trump Jr. shouldn’t have met with the lady.
...yet Clinton & the DNC working with and paying foreign entities to produce lies is just fine.
Many are STILL saying crazy things, like the “Trump/Russia scandal is about to break”, one person mentions a “tape” of Trump pertaining to the dossier and that everyone should see it. These people REALLY believe this stuff. It’s amazing. I never thought propaganda could be so effective in this country.
That this is all unraveling for DEMOCRATS is lost on them. They seem to have no idea.
Perkins Coe is the lawfirm that represented Barry Soetoro in all the birther lawsuits.
Hopefully the dam is breaking and is going to wash away some of the DC swamp with many swamp critters drowning.
LOCK ‘EM UP! ALL OF THEM!
Because as long as it remained “ongoing” the surveillance of Trump could continue. Am I right?
McCain.
There is another question. How did it end up in the hands of the FBI?
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
McCain dispatched a trusted aide across the Atlantic to get dirty dossier from ex-spy after former British diplomat told him about blackmail tapes
The Guardian charted the path the dirty dossier made from a British intelligence professional to Sen. John McCain and then the FBI
McCain, 80, put out a statement Wednesday saying that he was the bureau’s source of the controversial dossier
“.... Some congressional Republican leaders have spent months trying to discredit Fusion GPS and Steele...”
Yeah, like there’s any chance there’s a SPECK of truth in there.
Why doesn’t the Washington Post just go whole hog and put a hammer and sickle at the top of their newspaper?
And in the Washington ComPost of all places - okay, what’s the catch......
...
The typical strategy is to publish it once and then never mention it again. The rest of the corrupt media will have an easy time ignoring the one story. They’ll claim there’s no interest, and that it’s time to move on.
It is far too late for Uranium One to descend into any memory hole. This is a good sideshow but is very limited in its overall impact. Its an attempt by someone to buy time and try to cut losses. Its a pretty poor attempt to circumvent getting the full billing records, if it is that, because now interest is heightened in the broader story. Someone is going down, and the rest of the cockroaches are throwing them to the wolves to draw their attention while they try to make a break for cover.
When the first winds of this were out there well before the RNC, it was said that a Republican fat cat donor originally commissioned it. But Trumps sudden sweeping of the February and March Primaries would have made it moot.
So there sits Fusion with this product that only one group could use, the Clinton Campaign and the DNC. All the hard work for the ultimate smear was complete. Think about it. The Clinton campaign could not get out of their own way and now they want us to swallow their crap about them being the originators?
BULL CRAP.
You know what I’m wondering at the moment: Why now? And does this have anything to do with the EU? Not Russia, the EU.
Fusion GPSs research into Trump was funded by a still unknown Republican client during the GOP primary.
McCain or Bush ????
