Prof: Algebra, geometry perpetuate white privilege
Campus Reform ^ | October 23, 2017 | Toni Airaksinen

A math education professor at the University of Illinois argued in a newly published book that algebraic and geometry skills perpetuate “unearned privilege” among whites.

Rochelle Gutierrez, a professor at the University of Illinois, made the claim in a new anthology for math teachers, arguing that teachers must be aware of the “politics that mathematics brings” in society.

Similar math history as you. That experience let’s me understand why an engineer is paid more than an educator

If this guy is a mathematician then make him prove his theorem.

Yeah, it’s pretty hard to copyright a spreadsheet. Just a columnar pad for the computer.

Or, do it with trig:
c=b/(sin(arctan b/a))

There seems to be a contest between professors, administrators, and students as to who can think of the most insane comment and get media to cover it. For these pathetic souls, who sound like they forgot to take their meds, it’s the only way to get their name mentioned.

All persons of all races and cultures can use and understand math once they grasp the concepts.

No, NOT all persons can understand math. Some people are retarded, some people are stupid, some people are average, some people are smart, some people are geniuses.

graduate next year as an aerospace engineer never did well with algebra either. Calculus, trigonometry, differential equations etc, no problem.

If your kid understands calculus, he understands algebra. I didn't really 'get' algebra in high school either. Not sure why ... I didn't really 'get' it until I had to use it.

I have a friend with a Masters in something called Abstract Mathematics (got me)

When she began homeschooling her kids, she found that she had forgotten basic math and actually had a difficult go of it.

Pretty much everyone, even some animals, can grasp 2 + 2 = 4. How far above that point they can grasp is a function of mental capability and dedication. Not everyone has the mental capacity to grasp differential equations but that is a matter of the individual, not race or any other human invented division.

When most of my friends were out partying, I was studying mathematics often until 1 or 2 in the morning. The fact that I love math helped a lot, the fact that I’m white didn’t help one bit.

Or, do it with trig

Wouldn't you need to know the angles of the triangle for that?
