A math education professor at the University of Illinois argued in a newly published book that algebraic and geometry skills perpetuate unearned privilege among whites.
Rochelle Gutierrez, a professor at the University of Illinois, made the claim in a new anthology for math teachers, arguing that teachers must be aware of the politics that mathematics brings in society.

Im winning that fight but just barely.
I had a little trouble with Statistics for Disk Jockeys (OK, broadcasters)!
Nepantla?
The term, Nepantla is a Nahuatl (Aztec language) term connoting in between or a reference to the space of the middle. A number of contemporary scholars, writers, poets and artists have elaborated upon this concept, enhancing and/or adding on to the Nahua concept. (See Gloria Anzaldua, Pat Mora, Yreina Cervantez, Miguel Leon Portilla).
Most often the term is referencing endangered peoples, cultures, and/or gender, who due to invasion/conquest/marginalization or forced acculturation, engage in resistance strategies of survival. In this sense, this larger, cultural space of Nepantla becomes a postmodern paradigm or consciousness rooted in the creation of a new middle. Anzaldua calls this La Nueva Mestizaje, the intent of which is to heal from the open wound of colonial occupation. Sometimes, it is a reference to living in the borderlands or crossroads, and the process of creating alternative spaces in which to live, function or create. In other words, it is the process of developing political, cultural or psychological consciousness as a means of survival.
For populations impacted by the historical trauma of colonialism and what some have termed spiritual conquest, one strategy of cultural survival, or decolonization is the process of transculturation, which in many ways is resisting the mainstream, while, reinterpreting and redefining cultural difference as a place of power.

Mmmm... not sure how this relates to teaching algebra and geometry,
The “professor” appears to think that blacks are too stupid to learn Algebra and geometry.
"Her current research projects focus upon: developing in pre-service teachers the knowledge and disposition to teach powerful mathematics to urban students; the roles of uncertainty, tensions, and "Nepantla" in teaching; and the political knowledge (and forms of creative insubordination) that mathematics teachers need to effectively teach in an era of high-stakes education."
If you're wondering what "Nepantla" means:
"Most often the term is referencing endangered peoples, cultures, and/or gender, who due to invasion/conquest/marginalization or forced acculturation, engage in resistance strategies of survival. In this sense, this larger, cultural space of Nepantla becomes a postmodern paradigm or consciousness rooted in the creation of a new middle."
Still produced by White Guys, now old white guys....
Sounds like a newpantload....
So in easier terms to understand, this esteemed college Professor is calling the non-white privileged in his eyes ‘mind numbingly stupid’ ?
She is a total clown. People like her should not be anywhere near mathematical education, yet she is treated as some “expert” of national standing. Unreal.
I just hated to see Bill Gates get credit for it.
"The sum of the square roots of any two sides of an isosceles triangle is equal to the square root of the remaining side"
Note: in reality, the scarecrow's statement was not even close to being true.
Here's one clarification I found...
"The sum of the "squares" (rather than "square roots") of "the shortest" (rather than "any") two sides of "a right angle" (rather than "an isosceles") triangle is equal to the "square" (rather than "square root") of the remaining side.
This is NOT the triangle inequalities theorem, rather it appears as merely a failed attempt at a watered down version of "Pythagoras' Theorem". "
No, it’s cursive writing.
Excel was pretty powerful.
I used to use it to mimic company forms that had to be repetitively filled out with minor revisions. This was a definite personal productivity enhancer until all of those forms went online.
(Please forgive this next "Your Reply"): You did not want to sound condescending to my mother, "Mrs. Loucks." She was the first daughter in her immigrant generation to graduate from high school (also, the first accredited school in Michigan), and became the matriarch of her generation.
She was the embodiment of Proverbs 31; "worth far more than rubies." She was my father's life-long love, mother to four college-educated children, mentor to school children, supporter to the community and her Church.
She was stylish and well-read, had a letter published in Time, could address a political group or a child's poetry class. She marched for Woman's suffrage, along with her mother; and her father (rare). She was more that a "good cook," she could make the various "game" the hunters brought in palatable! Super Lady and a "True Lady."
Meth does eventually degrade the mind into delusions and hallucinations. Math materializes and transforms into nooses.
Don't forget their strong respect for gravity, they throw LGBT's off tall buildings while not busy proving math theorems.
Wasn’t Lotus 1,2,3 in between there somewhere?
How does this way of making a living make you feel?
a) Resentful
b) Hostile
c) Outraged
c) Violent
e) All of the above
