An IHOP waiter thwarted an attempted robbery at his San Antonio, TX, restaurant.
Elijah Arnold was opening the restaurant early Thursday morning when he heard something happening at the cash register.
I just heard the register popping, Arnold told ABC affiliate WFAA.
Arnold went to investigate the noise and saw someone trying to pull cash out of the register.
I stepped out and looked and there he was pulling the register out and everything so I just took off, my instinct kicked in and I took off full speed at him, he said.
IHOPs surveillance footage shows Arnold, a third degree black belt, tackling the man to the ground and then hanging on to the robbers foot as he tries to escape from the pancake house.
Arnold, who was hit in the face with crowbar during the altercation, said the robber was pleading with him during the struggle.
He tries to start apologizing and, man Im so sorry. I know I hit you, he told WFAA. I know I'm trying to steal your money, but just give it to me. I need it really bad and everything like that.
Though Arnold didnt let the man get away, he was sympathetic to the robber.
Two weeks ago, I wasn't working, Arnold told NBC affiliate KABB. I was homeless.

Anytime Samuel L. Jackson gets knocked on his a$$ is a good day....................
You mean, he wasn’t fired for resisting a criminal?
Like to know what martial arts move uses the full speed tackling and foot trapping technique.
Amen! He needs even more than that.
"C'mon, Yolanda....what's Fonzie like?"
I just read on the YouTube page where I got the video that he said he was high on drugs when they shot that scene. What a lowlife, with all of his millions. Unless he did purposely to look more authentic in the role?
Ever notice he always gets cast as an Angry Black Man?
I wonder why that is?.......................
Any vestige of respect I had for him evaporated at that point.
Kung Fu Treachery
I really hope the owners reward him well.
He probably makes $12/hour, is a regular citizen, and the common attitude today is simply stay low, and let someone else take care of it, especially if its a plain cash robbery.
Yet his natural sense of justice and right-and-wrong come to the fore, and he acted on it.
I hope someone recognizes that.
Just because it’s in the comments section of Youtube doesn’t mean it’s true. Also, Coming to America was made in the late 80’s. That’s well before Samuel L. Jackson was a household name and made his millions. He was a nobody.
Good for the young man having stopped a criminal, but he seems to make a LOT of questionable choices.
#1. Most restaurants say ‘let the burglar take the money and go. Do not interfere or impede.’ I know of someone who was fired from a local grocery store for helping to hold a thief down till the cops arrived.
#2. Holding onto the burglars ankle, just to get Crowbarred in the face? Is it really worth throwing your life on the line for this? The burglar could have smacked the IHOP guy into a permanent coma.
#3. Giving a live interview on camera while still dressed in bloody uniform shirt.
Not smart. The IHOP district manager may not like seeing their logo connected to such a violent event. It seems the employee was showboating.
If anyone from that restaurant were to give an interview, it should have been the manager. This guy just seems to want the glory.
BJJ
“He went from serving pancake combos to serving...”...justice.
People need to take action against crime. Apathy leads to more and more crime.
This guy is a real human being and not a pod person. He should get some glory.
I didn't say I 100% believed it to be true. But I had little reason to doubt it was, considering the POS he was/is. SOB was a member of the Black Panthers, a communist-revolutionary domestic terrorist group.
Samuel L Jacksons 91 films, among them Pulp Fiction, The Incredibles and the eagerly awaited Star Wars III, have grossed more than £3 billion. But, he tells John Hiscock, its easy money
It is 15 years since Samuel L Jackson left a drug rehabilitation centre, but he is, he confesses, still addicted.
Nowadays his addictions are not alcohol and crack cocaine but work and golf...
