George W. Bush Emerges to Bash Trump, ‘Nativism’: ‘We Cannot Wish Globalism Away’
Breitbart ^ | 10/19/2017

Posted on 10/19/2017 10:29:07 AM PDT by Altura Ct.

Former President George W. Bush delivered a public repudiation of President Donald Trump’s political identity, suggesting many aspects of the current administration are fueling division in the United States and around the world.

The former president defended the ideas of globalism, free trade, and free markets as well as foreign interventionism around the world in a speech at the George W. Bush Institute.

“We cannot wish globalism away,” Bush said, noting that the United States must sustain “wise and sustained global engagement” for the future of the country.

Bush indirectly accused Trump of fueling dangerous ideologies that threatened the unity of the United States and global stability, spending a large portion of his speech complaining about social ills in the country.

“We’ve seen a return of isolationist sentiments forgetting that American security is directly threatened by the chaos and despair of distant places,” he warned.

Bush urged Americans to “recover our own identity,” citing a commitment to global engagement, free and international trade, and immigration.

“We’ve seen nationalism distorted into nativism, and forgotten the dynamism that immigration has always brought to America,” he lamented.

“Bigotry seems emboldened, our politics seems more vulnerable to conspiracy theories and outright fabrication,” he said. “There are some signs that support for democracy itself has waned especially for the young.”

But Bush’s criticism wasn’t merely on Trump’s “America First” political ideology. He also criticized the tone of the American political system led by Trump.

“We’ve seen our discourse degraded by casual cruelty,” he lamented, noting that “argument turns too easily into animosity” and “disagreement escalates into dehumanization.”

He criticized the rise of “bullying and prejudice” in national politics, suggesting that the country lacked positive role models.

Don’t forget that “Islam is a religion of peace” despite all historical evidence to the contrary.

They sold out to the Chamber of Crony Commerce to get a seat in the club. GWB is one of them and they trotted him out to trash Trump. I wonder how Mr. Manners who never said a word about obama can reconcile his leftist BS about ME a deplorable and Trump. He essentially called out the country for electing Trump. He’s as bad as Hillary on what he thinks about average Americans and just as arrogant as the usual elite crowd. Very disappointed in him. Total hypocrite.

The best US President that the mexicans and chinese could buy.

The US manufacturing sector crashed and burned under Bush’s watch.

Plenty of people here on FR celebrated that destruction too.

Most of them probably had a hand in it, hence the terms “FRee traitor” and “sell your grandmother to the commies for a buck” crowd.

What goes around, comes around. I just chalked that up to faux conservatives who align themselves with socialist-democrat-communist regimes when it comes to business interests.

I kept pushing back my bad feeling for George but not so much anymore, this is sad. Wish the GOP still sent me requests for money I could slap the paid return envelope on a brick and send it to them.

Oh, I agree with him, we're not going to wish Globalism away. We may have to resort to force of arms.

Globalism is essentially the ruling classes of various countries concluding that they have more in common with one another than they do with the people they're governing. How this differs from the ancient insistence on the part of royalty that they were mandated by God to rule and their people were mandated to obey is actually very difficult to tell. It appears to be a part of the human condition for self-proclaimed aristocracies to form - they certainly did under Communism, and are quite visible under its capitalistic rivals - and for these to decide that World Order means following their orders. For the good of all, naturally.

It also appears to be a part of the human condition to get fed up with the bastards and start cutting their heads off. Caveat vendor.

At least neither Trump nor his grandfather were a financial supporter of the Hitler regime, like Prescott Bush was. Where was GW Bush’s father on November 22, 1963? George Bush, Sr. couldn’t remember for decades, which is strange because those of us who were mere children on that day remember it and our whereabouts all very well. Turns out he was in Dallas the night before and day of the assassination of JFK. Why did he obfuscate? GW Bush should go back to being a drunk and drug user, it wasn’t that long ago and he was probably a lot more fun to be around then than the sober phony moralizer he is now.

I didn’t pay as much attention then, as I do now. Thankfully there are so many people on the Web who tell the truth.
