In a year where coverage of President Trump has generated TV ratings, limitless controversy, and the worlds scrutiny,
the November 7th Virginia governors race between former Republican National Committee Chair Ed Gillespie and Democratic Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam has been gasping for attention.
That may change this week as both campaigns pull out some heavy hitters. President George W. Bush is attending two Gillespie fundraisers on Monday. President Obama is campaigning for Northam on Thursday. That, following weekend appearances by Vice President Mike Pence at a Gillespie rally and former Vice President Joe Biden at an Northam event.
Unknown yet is whether President Trump will campaign for Gillespie.

Might as well be California.
And it’s because of that fact, that the R candidate is a GOPe/McConnell/uniparty shill that I suspect the Ds will hold VA.
Have to connect and motivate the “Trump Base” in the rural areas to overcome NOVA... D is a bore too so NOVA turnout will be down, but sadly I doubt a generic establishment R can connect and motivate the “Trump Base” for lack of a better term to show up at the polls.
Had VA ran a more Trumpesque candidate, non GOPe guy I think this would have almost been an automatic win for the R... way it sits now is say Gillespie could pull off a win, but the most likely outcome is Ds hold it... it will be close, my guess is under 3 points at most, probably less than that.
Time will tell.
‘don’t need to lose ground to create another blue state’...I agree; Gillespie may not be our ideal candidate but Virginia will undergo redistricting during the next governor’s term. Both the House of Delegates and the Senate are currently GOP but will be up for grabs if the Democrats have the statehouse and get to reorganize the playing field further in their favor. My wife and I will both be voting for Gillespie largely because of this.
I FRankly don’t care who campaigns for him, so long as they advance Gillespie to the Governor’s office!
Well played!
And spot on!
ALL Republicans in Virginia have to pull together and put Gillespie into the Governor’s office!
Cool! Harvey's calendar's freeing up! He's a UniParty kinda guy! Glad to hear you're on board with that!
So looking forward to helping vote out the Dems who’ve been in power for the last four years!
I hear that Terry McAuliffe, Hillary Clinton, Barack Hussein Obama, Anthony Weiner, Maxine Waters, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Michael Moore, Al Franken, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders will all be together in Virginia campaigning for The Democrat, Northam for Governor of VA. This group includes criminals, sex offenders, rapists, child abusers, Communists and most of all, avid “AMERICA HATERS”!!!
I hear tell that Obama & Clinton will lead a group of “Obama’s” “Hate America” NFL thugs in kneeling and mocking the USA flag, the USA, National Anthem, the USA Military, the American People, the American Nation!!! Sad commentary on any American buffoon, idiot, voter that votes Democrat in Virginia.....SHAME on all of you!!!
Support POTUS, Donald J, Trump, and MAGA, and cast your vote for Ed Gillispie to become the next governor of the great commonwealth and state of Virginia and the home of one of the greatest of American Generals, Robert E. Lee. Remember this folks, Robert E. Lee might have placed his loyalty with the Confederacy, for he loved his birthplace, Virginia dearly, but, he was and always will be an American. Those who mock him without knowing the entire man, should hang their heads in shame, for they are certainly not Americans that know and understand our history and its greatness.
Considering we absorbed a large portion of the population of Californa and New York, what else should we be? Virginia is and will continue to be screwed until such time as we figure out a way to send these MORONS back to their failed states.
And how much is the UniParty paying you for electioneering in the Commonwealth, all the way from Texas, I wonder?
I find it absolutely amazing how many of the Gillespie cheerleaders on this thread are NOT from Virginia. Tells you something.
I smell UniParty paychecks...
Not one cent...my friend. My purpose has one objective, to do everything possible to insure that Virginia is strong and powerful enough for Corey Stewart to defeat, actually politically destroy, that “Hillary Clinton”, moron, buffoon, Hate America, Democrat low life, Senator, Tim Kaine in next year’s Mid-Term elections. Stewart will serve his country well inside the Senate. Electing Ed Gillispie would make the Stewart effort to defeat Kaine much easier, IMHO. Virginia, always better “Red” then “Blue”.
Sorry to burst your bubble all the way from Texas, but the UniParty won’t let Corey anywhere near the Senate. We here in Virginia saw what they did to him with the governor’s race. Their chosen boy, Ed, got the golden ring.
Look....I always go to the source of facts. The Republican Governor primary was lightly voted. As such, Corey Stewart almost upset Ed Gillispie who is known by everyone in the state. Had the Trumpsters in Virginia turned out and voted for Stewart, Stewart would now be your governor candidate.
However, destiny saw fit to have Gillispie win the primary for governor. I, personally would rather see Cory Stewart in the USA Senate then in the governor’s mansion In VA. And...yes, Stewart can win the GOP senate primary and soundly defeat that deadbeat communist Democrat, Tim Kaine. See....the object is to be like our POTUS, Trump...never give up...ever!!! We need that governor win in Virginia...badly.
I am not giving up, I am just offering my honest analysis. I am not sour graping over Stewart, I don’t live in VA, I don’t have any on the ground information from VA... I am just offering my analysis of the race from my vantage point.
I do think the R COULD win this race... This is a winnable race, I am just not convinced Gillespie is going to get the turnout he needs to win. There is no doubt in my mind overall turnout will be down, and NOVA turnout will definitely be down, with no direct pocketbook voting by the DC burbs to protect their federally funded paychecks, they won’t be showing up in the same numbers as they did in the national election.
The question in my mind is, can Gillespie get good enough turnout in the red counties.... If he can he wins... but I am just not convinced this GOPe/McConnell guy is going to connect and motivate those voters to turn up to take advantage of that NOVA drop.
I do believe this is a winnable race, and Gillespie could suprise here, but I don’t feel its the most likely outcome. If they were running a drain the swamp type candidate, without all the establishment ties, I would comfortably predict an easy R win... with an establishment R however, I think its possible the R wins, but not that its the most likely outcome.
I am happy to be proven wrong, and eat crow... Time will tell
We didn’t get “shoved” nothing. There was a very competitive Republican primary in VA this year.
Gillespie’s primary opponent, Corey Stewart, is as hard-core conservative as any FReeper. He’s planning to run for the U.S. Senate next year. If he has any hope of being elected, he needs a Republican (of any stripe) in the Governor’s mansion. Politics, as a wise person once said, makes strange bedfellows. VA conservative voters stay home at their own peril.
Your analysis is excellent and right on the money. Two things need to happen for Gillispie to win. One, Gillispie must become “Trump” from A-Z. Mitch McConnell cannot help any Candidate, no matter who he or she is. Did you see him yesterday with POTUS, Trump” McConnell was and is standing “Rigor Mortis & Walking Dead” combined. Also bringing any Bush near Virginia is an absolute waste of time.
Two: POTUS TRUMP must campaign strongly in Virginia with Gillispie....Bannon & company must also become outwardly vocal in strong support of Gillispie. Gillispie must be Trump, Trump, Trump and more Trump!!! End of story!!!
If Gillispie hangs his star on McConnell, game over Democrat wins!!! His only real chance of winning is Donald J. Trump!!!
You are 1000% correct!!! End of story!!!
I would think by now that would hardly surprise any conservative.
