Florida gov. declares state of emergency ahead of Richard Spencer speech

Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Florida Gov. Rick Scott on Monday declared a state of emergency ahead of a planned appearance by white nationalist Richard Spencer at University of Florida.

Scott made the designation for Alachua County, where the school is located, upon request by Sheriff Sadie Darnell.

Spencer, designated a white nationalist by the Southern Poverty Law Center and head of the white nationalist think tank National Policy Institute, was scheduled to speak Thursday in Gainesville.

"We live in a country where everyone has the right to voice their opinion, however, we have zero tolerance for violence and public safety is always our number one priority," Scott said in a statement. "I have been in constant contact with Sheriff Darnell who has requested this executive order to ensure that county and local law enforcement have every needed resource. This executive order is an additional step to ensure that the University of Florida and the entire community is prepared so everyone can stay safe."

In August, UF rejected a request by Spencer to rent space on its grounds to host an event in September, citing possible violence.

"I find the racist rhetoric of Richard Spencer and white nationalism repugnant and counter to everything the university and this nation stands for," UF President Kent Fuchs said at the time.

>>Spencer is continually attacked for alleged racism. Hope to see a factual and impartial analysis of what, if anthing, he has done that is racist.<<

Precisely so. Because currently, anyone who is white and does not walk in lockstep with the Democrats, Leftists, Progressives, Socialists, Communists, Antifa freaks, BLM, etc., etc. is automatically labelled a racist. So, other than that, what’s he done to be so honored?

This is why Scott declared a state of emergency - not because of Spencer but because of the crowd that will come out to shut him down. Spencer is a powerless idiot, and the people who are making him look even slightly important are the rabid out of control leftists. And believe me, as someone who lived in Alachua County for a few years, i can tell you the county is full of then because of the university.

This is the place where a university poli sci assistant professor threw a brick through the window of GOP headquarters....and a full professor attacked a cardboard cutout of GWB outside the campaign headquarters and then terrorized the little old ladies manning the phones inside.

The left is nuts and only getting nuttier.

I’ve seen interviews with him and would say he’s neither. He seems sort of Euro-trashy in a way, doesn’t believe in America at all except to the extent that it’s European in origin and composition.

Spencer speaks a lot of truth. The left hates the truth.

Spencer is more of a white pride type character. More like a sanitized version of David Duke.

Sadie Darnell is a hardcore leftist politician. Gainesville is the Berkley of FL.

I live in a small town in western Alachua Co. Having witnessed how Sadie works, she made the request so Gov Scott would disapprove it.

Spencer tried to speak at UF about a month ago. He was turned down, but he threatened to sue, so they reacheduled him. The wrong people have been given enough time to organize. The press is drooling for something. I hope I’m wrong, but I expect trouble.

Some people don’t like him because he is soft spoken and looks a bit awkward, but, IMO, he has done an excellent job running this state. If he wasn’t term limited, I’d vote for him again.

So he’s just your average values oriented Conservative then.

Do I have that right? It’s what I suspected.

Spencer? I wouldn't describe him that way. Decide for yourself...

Yes, I’d have to agree with both of your assessments.

While I do agree that we can push the multi-culturalism angle to the point Los Angeles has less than 50% of it’s adults, who can function in business English, that is the other end of the spectrum.

What is important is that those who come here come in numbers that don’t overwhelm our communities, regions, states, or nation.

The goal is instill our values into all that do come here.

Then we become one despite our heredity.

I agree with the idea that Western Civilization wound up creating something special. I do not fear others having a slice of that pie if they want to do it peacefully, become one with us and pull together.

As for foreign nations, I’m happy to see them do well also.

This isn’t a competition, at least we shouldn’t demand it be.

All nations should start at home with peace, and try to work together.

That’s the problem I have with the Islamic people right now.

They do not come here to adopt our ways, or be one of us. They come where with the express idea of changing us to their way of living.

These two societies do not gel right now.

Perhaps in 100 to 500 years, Islam may mellow and then be a positive player on the world stage. Until then, NO!

This guy was pumping out White race bilge.

He tried to do it cleverly, but it was there.

We should not be mean to other races or peoples, but we shouldn’t simply surrender the West either.

We need to stop all immigration for 30 years or so, assimilate and send some of the riff raff back.

It’s been done before. It’s time to do it again.

It needs to be done humanely, and with reason. Good luck with that, but things are clearly upside down right now.

We have 46 million recent immigrants. That’s way too much.

He calls America a “European nation.” If I wanted to wallow in crazy I’d sooner follow Algore. ;-)

I think his point was that our early settlers did come from Europe. They also disliked a number of things about Europe and tried to avoid them here.

The work ethic and ingenuity came through. We have a heavy influence of Europe here, but that does not mean we are Europe. Hell, I’m with you, no thanks.

Europe has become one gelatinous glob these days, and I’m not addressing race. The E. U. has tried to pull the one size fits all routine, and it’s preposterous to neuter long term citizens, and then give power to the Islamic rushing in.

Murder, Rape, Sharia Law,... no.

Gore is no better than this guy. Both are lost in space.

We are a nation with a strong commitment to allowing people to come from all over. I am very strict about our Judeo Christian derived criminal codes though. There is a right and wrong, and I’m not interested in allowing folks to bring their own justice system with them.

Don’t like ours, don’t bother stepping on our soil.

Robert Spencer, along with that other guy (can’t remember his name at the moment) who was at the Charlottesville/Antifa shindig, are both agents provocateur. I looked up both of them and ran into some interesting stuff. Spencer was hired by The Atlantic do make a movie or maybe book (my brain ain’t working right) on racism before he started this stuff. The Atlantic is as we all know, a liberal to the max POS magainze; they only endorsed a candidate for president twice in 70 years, the second one was Hitlery, because Trump is so Eeeevil.

Thanks for mentioning that.

It appears the Left is willing to use anyone to their own ends.

I wouldn’t want him anywhere near my side. He’d just reinforce mindsets that I and others want no part of.

The public would hear that I and everyone else did though.

Keep him away from our efforts.

When someone refers to him as one of us, set them straight immediately.

I had to search - the other guy is Jason Kessler of “Unite the Right”. He was an Occupuke with other hardcore leftist affiliations, supported 0hole. Spencer is a bit more difficult to find info on but also not what he seems at all. Working for The Atlantic?? Gack. They’re both very bad.

What happens when, due to the influx of immigrants who do not share the values you reference, the soil is no longer - nor ever to be again - something that belongs to those who share the values you reference?

The imprint of those values upon soil is not indelible.

It can be erased and replaced.

Do you agree that the identity of the nation was forged by those of European heritage?

Certainly they wrote the documents. But in the intervening centuries a unique American identity has been forged which has vastly diverged from where Europe has gone off to. For which I give thanks.
