When Gwyneth Paltrow was 22 years old, she got a role that would take her from actress to star: The film producer Harvey Weinstein hired her for the lead in the Jane Austen adaptation Emma. Before shooting began, he summoned her to his suite at the Peninsula Beverly Hills hotel for a work meeting that began uneventfully.
It ended with Mr. Weinstein placing his hands on her and suggesting they head to the bedroom for massages, she said.
I was a kid, I was signed up, I was petrified, she said in an interview, publicly disclosing that she was sexually harassed by the man who ignited her career and later helped her win an Academy Award.
She refused his advances, she said, and confided in Brad Pitt, her boyfriend at the time. Mr. Pitt confronted Mr. Weinstein, and soon after, the producer warned her not to tell anyone else about his come-on. I thought he was going to fire me, she said.

Her story isn’t believable...
She put out, got the job, and has shut up until now. BECAUSE, it suited her selfish career goals.
“She was a kid at 22?”
We have her word that she actually rebuffed him. She wins a HUGE coveted part and doesn’t give him the payoff he anticipates? Was the casting couch already occupied?
Just watch the movie “Bruno” with Sasha Baron Cohen. It’s a disgusting movie, but has a revealing part. He pretended to be casting a film involving children and brought in kids and parents for casting. He asked these parents if they were comfortable with their children being placed in numerous dangerous situations and they had no problems with it. It was unreal.
I have a relative who has been in several movies and tv shows. Always wondered what they did to be successful.
It is also about the fame........FAME, I want to live forever
It’s pretty obvious that actresses with their own connections didn’t need to worry about career pitfalls. Paltrow comes from a famous family, at the time was dating another famous actor, and likely assumed some amount of protection as a result.
Weinstein was powerful but likely didn’t want to over play his hand. Seems his focus was more on nobodies.
i’m more interested in how this shakes out. This didn’t happen by chance. I have a feeling this is all leading up to a massive story.
The narrative is building.
The problem is there is a fine line between propositioning and harassing.

Agree. And “rape” and “assault” are altogether different, too. And if it is shown he was guilty of rape, he should got to prison - or worse.
What I am seeing is a lot of stories the sum of which conflates boorish behavior, unprofessional behavior, and rape all together. There was also likely a lot of consensual sex and some of that in which the woman felt uncomfortable but technically was okay with it at the time because it advanced their careers.
The trouble with the media conflating all of this is that it leads to a lot of jokes about masturbating into a potted plant and whatnot - while if there was rape that is not funny and the guy needs to be locked up.
“Its safe for all the cockroaches to come out of the woodwork now.”
Seriously...
and from Buckeye McFrog:
“He turned them down. He told me it was because there was no way he could get up every morning and go to work with all of those pedophiles.”
and from rdcbn
“Frankly, the only thing that shocks me is that the guy was molesting young women instead of boys.”

As long as Hollywood stars are confessing decades too late about the Weinstein sex scandal, why are no reporters asking them about what they know about current Hollywood pedophiles?
Let's get Trump!
Their silence allowed others that followed to receive the same treatment or worse by Weinstein.
There is a lot of truth in that.
One wonders why they even talk to us.
My thoughts also. 22 is a full grown adult. And I doubt she was naive to the ways of the world.
If Weinstein had been buggering male actors or little boys, we’d have NEVER found out about it...............
Where are all the women who accused Trump??
Also, this sounds an awful lot like “Women are strong until they are not”.
If David Geffen had propositioned men in a similar way, would the same people be just as appalled?
Agree with you that there is a storm brewing.
I don’t think this story started with Malia Obama.
I think this whole thing started with Steve Bannon leaving the White House.
They all knew, but once one enters the cesspool of Hollywood they have already compromised something. Harvey had career-making/breaking POWER. Thats what makes the casting couch possible.
Mamas, dont let your kids grow up to be actors.
He harassed Squinty?
