NAPA (CBS SF) Wind-whipped wildfires roared to life Sunday night and early Monday across Wine Country, burning building, forcing evacuations and injuring several people.
The Atlas Peak fire was the largest of several wildfires, quickly growing to more than 200 acres near Napa. Meanwhile, the fire near Calistoga had burned several building and sent several people to the hospital to be treated for burns.
Cal Fire said firefighters were battling several blazes in Sonoma County. The largest was in the area of Porter Creek Road and Petrified Forest Road near Calistoga where mandatory evacuations were ordered for residents along Porter Creek, Petrified Forest, Franz Valley and Mountain Home Ranch Rd.
Early Monday morning, the Sonoma County Sheriffs Department said fires had erupted at Mark West Springs and Riebli roads in Santa Rosa, at Shiloh and Conde roads in Windsor and at Highway 116 and Fredericks Road in Sebastopol.
The fires had stretched Sonoma and Napa counties firefighting resources to the breaking point. A call for mutual aid was issued to other Bay Area fire departments.

Wow, sorry for your Vet friend!!! Can’t imagine what home in jeopardy feels like...?
Glad he is prepared, but why is he staying if fire so close? to protect property?
I was wondering, is there anything people can do to protect their homes? Like spraying perimeter of property or roof with water? Or are fires just to strong, power out, etc.?
Just terrible, and I hope it starts raining or whatever it takes to end this disaster!
Lots of people are keeping Californians in their thoughts and prayers...Your friend is in mine!

Thank you.
:)
I hope and pray for everyone to be safe and for this fire to stop.
I wouldn’t wish any of that on my worst enemy.
Why would you punish 50 kitties by putting them into the care of that woman? Poor kitties!
Lol!
That thought did cross my mind as I posted.
:)
I suppose that’s true. But it bears repeating. Thanks!
I live in the Sierra’s, and when we get evacuation advisories, we leave. We only have one road out, and figure that it’s better to not get trapped on a gridlocked road.
They can’t get people out with helicopters. The aircraft can’t even fly some of the time because of the smoke. Thy also don’t fly in the dark. Sun up to sun down
They are lower than rabid skunks.
We had several friends in the Napa area, and we hoped/knew they were evacuated and didn’t hear from them until late yesterday. Everyone of those people voted for Trump.
There are 3 couples and 2 widows living in Silverado, and we have no info on them. Again, all of these people are/were Trump voters and long time real republicans.
In Santa Rosa/Sonoma, there are two 40 something women/sisters. They are like daughters/sisters. One has a couple of daughters and grandkids. One is an old fashioned Democrat, she voted for Trump instead of Clinton. The other is as conservative as we are. Again, we have not been able to contact them.
Yesterday, until about 2 pm, we couldn’t text or call friends and relatives with our cell phones, because of the high demand and loss of cell towers.
As noted yesterday, Santa Rosa and around the city of Sonoma look like Dresden after getting bombed in WWII. No one knows if people got caught in that inferno.
Anyone cheering that these poor people should lose their lives/home is a true low life sob.
CBS fired that female rabid lawyer vp after her remarks re the dead and wounded in Las Vegas.
Jim, I don’t want to be in the same zipcode/state/internet site with anyone wanting my relatives, friends and us to be dead.
“A guy my son works with is a volunteer firefighter.
Nobodys heard from him in two days.”
One of our sons has a similar situation. He heard from his friend last night. Outside of over two days with no sleep, he is okay and will return to his city with the truck incase they are needed.
One of our younger relatives did just last night. There is only one road out of his area.
Glad he’s okay.
Sunday night 10 vehicles with evacuees were following a sheriff’s vehicle on a back road trying to leave the Atlas Peak fire.
They got caught due to trees and powerlines falling on the road.
A CHP helicopter and his co pilot in the dark of night started rescuing those people in the dark with trees and power lines around them.
They successfully rescued 40 people, 5 dogs and 1 cat.
The pilot was interviewed and made what he did sound like just a job. If he and his copilot had not rescued those people with that night rescue, those 40 people, 5 dogs and 1 cat would probably be dead.
Thanks, so is our son and us!
Extreme emergency, but they won’t fly up here because of the mountains, and huge trees.
“Extreme emergency, but they wont fly up here because of the mountains, and huge trees.”
Here, they fly 24/7 unless there is fog or a frog drowning rain.
A young man between the ages of our sons, spent a lot of time drinking milk, eating and growing at our house. Became a CHP chopter pilot and just retired. He flew at night often.
Looking for some good news...Not finding much this morning...
Evacuations widened as Northern California wildfires spread to 170,000 acres with at least 23 dead
http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-northern-california-wildfires-20171012-story.html
Article does talk about fact that every lone ember is a ticking time bomb and provides some pictures, map, people’s first-hand account/perceptions.
No rain predicted for next 7 days...Not good...praying for rain as well as the people there.
On the radio news here in Phoenix: Said today was going to be another red alert day, as bad or worse than yesterday. Said 23 confirmed dead, 280 missing. Said there are 22 separate fires, although I’ve also heard 30 separate fires.
