NAPA (CBS SF) Wind-whipped wildfires roared to life Sunday night and early Monday across Wine Country, burning building, forcing evacuations and injuring several people.
The Atlas Peak fire was the largest of several wildfires, quickly growing to more than 200 acres near Napa. Meanwhile, the fire near Calistoga had burned several building and sent several people to the hospital to be treated for burns.
Cal Fire said firefighters were battling several blazes in Sonoma County. The largest was in the area of Porter Creek Road and Petrified Forest Road near Calistoga where mandatory evacuations were ordered for residents along Porter Creek, Petrified Forest, Franz Valley and Mountain Home Ranch Rd.
Early Monday morning, the Sonoma County Sheriffs Department said fires had erupted at Mark West Springs and Riebli roads in Santa Rosa, at Shiloh and Conde roads in Windsor and at Highway 116 and Fredericks Road in Sebastopol.
The fires had stretched Sonoma and Napa counties firefighting resources to the breaking point. A call for mutual aid was issued to other Bay Area fire departments.

You’ve done a stellar job of updating with latest info.
Prayers for those affected in the many areas of devastation.
More like their ability to pull made up data out of their ass is so amazing considering their head is in there, as well. Definitely the unchristian retard of the week award
We drove all over Sonoma ‘wine country’ in 1990 or so. So beautiful! This really makes me sad. ;(
We’d all better knuckle down and drink more California Red in solidarity, I’m thinking! :)
Just this morning, they were talking about steel structures that were melted as the inferno was at or above the melting point of steel!
Didn’t Rocket Scientist Rosie O’Donnell tell us that 9/11 was some sort of inside job because steel doesn’t melt?
I guess I’d better wait for her to opine, before I make up my mind on this matter! *SNORT*
It was a heart breaking video. He (Freeper Yollopoliuhqui) offered it to the news network and they should pick it up. There was one shot of someone’s house that seemed to go up in flames in one fell swoop.

I just read that authorities are going to start looking for remains this evening. The article said many nursing home residents are missing. WTH?! It didn’t mention which facility or town, but all I could think of was the older people stranded in feet of water in wheelchairs during Harvey.
So earlier today there were 200 reported missing, they found nearly 50 at shelters etc. That still leaves over 100 missing.
Grim.
Absolutely! I'm a member of the Rutherford Hills Winery Club. They send me a three-bottle shipment every few months.
Fortunately, they seem to have been spared any damage.

As Nebraska wines go, James Arthur is an excellent. Of the wineries in this state, those within the eastern half grow the best grape varietals, and produce respectable vintages. Not so much for the western growers.
IMO, one of the biggest problems I see, here in Nebraska, is that many wine makers “cheat” with their wine aging process - by using bags of oak “chips,” suspended in polyethylene drums - rather than aging the wine in oak barrels. It makes for a boring pallet, a loss of distinction between varietals, and usually a peculiar aftertaste in the finished product.
There’s a vineyard about 25 miles north west of my location, as the crow flies. The owner is selling the property. He has 2 1/2 acres of established trellised vineyard, mostly Chambourcin (a deep red, used mainly in mixing) and Traminette (a white varietal that is similar Seyval Blanc or Gewürztraminer). Unfortunately, his fermentation process leaves much to be desired. Although it’s pretty hard to screw up Chamboucin, most of his vintages are nowhere near aged properly. So, if I were to purchase the property, I need to make a major investment in upgrading his equipment to traditional practices.
I don’t know yet his selling price; however, it’s a moot point - since I’m presently building a house. I cannot much afford to take on “new projects.” Missed opportunity.
Lookin really bad there today with the smoke.Poor people were trapped.Heartbreaking.
Oh no.
It is all about speed.
The chips age wine faster (more surface area).
I would use steel vessels or other none odor materials rather than a PE drum. Still, you can’t match an old fashioned aging process for taste and mouthfeel.
