NAPA (CBS SF) Wind-whipped wildfires roared to life Sunday night and early Monday across Wine Country, burning building, forcing evacuations and injuring several people.
The Atlas Peak fire was the largest of several wildfires, quickly growing to more than 200 acres near Napa. Meanwhile, the fire near Calistoga had burned several building and sent several people to the hospital to be treated for burns.
Cal Fire said firefighters were battling several blazes in Sonoma County. The largest was in the area of Porter Creek Road and Petrified Forest Road near Calistoga where mandatory evacuations were ordered for residents along Porter Creek, Petrified Forest, Franz Valley and Mountain Home Ranch Rd.
Early Monday morning, the Sonoma County Sheriffs Department said fires had erupted at Mark West Springs and Riebli roads in Santa Rosa, at Shiloh and Conde roads in Windsor and at Highway 116 and Fredericks Road in Sebastopol.
The fires had stretched Sonoma and Napa counties firefighting resources to the breaking point. A call for mutual aid was issued to other Bay Area fire departments.

Something completely lost on the green people. The Indians were very aggressive with their land management.
Don’t know about transmission tower lines. Here in Fresno trying to monitor the sitrep at home. But according to scanner trafffic seems downed power lines and not tranmisssion tower lines.
.
Like the Lake county fires a few years ago.

About a mile from the evac zones. Two close friends have lost everything.
It was on another thread.
If the West Coast is like the East Coast, contractors do most of the work. Between FL and PR, contractors are fighting to keep guys local. Too much money for OT storm work.
It’s those that rejoice who have affected my enjoyment of this site. It truly is disgusting!!!
The problem is that without controlled burns the fuel load build way up.
Take for example our redwoods. Small low-intensity fires don’t hurt them, just clears the area under them. But without those types of fires, the one that does get going carries enough energy to actually catch one on fire. They aren’t easy to get burning, very thick bark and tens of thousands of gallons of water in them...

The Atlas Peak fire is midway between Lake Berryessa and Napa.
Very steep heavily wooded terrain

My feed went out...I thought I heard the winds might be improving. Hope so...
You are close...Hope it ends soon! So sorry to hear about your friends; loss. I just cannot imagine the pain people are going through—really in so many areas. Will take a while to recover. My thoughts and prayers are with the people up there...my son is in the Bay area, so he is safe, but I do worry about stuff.
Indeed! Last night it was very windy. I'm in South San Francisco. Opened my patio window to check on things because the wind was blowing, and smelled a bunch of smoke. I thought it was grass burning in my neighborhood from a neighbor. Surprised the smoke came all the way from wine country. My sister and her husband live in a $2mil home on a wooded hill in Sonoma, trees everywhere. So far they're okay. But no way they can move many pieces of antiques, some of it French 1700s chairs, cabinets and tables, as well as early 1900s cameras and lamps on stands. Her husband trades in antiques, both are in their 70s. If their home goes up in flames, so does a lifetime of collecting antiques.
I don't like how some Freepers wish ill of Californians, when most of the sickos came here from elsewhere and ruined politics for all of us (like Nancy Baltimore Pelosi). Still a great many conservatives here, despite the loons around us. Was at Fleet Week festivities in SF this weekend, lots of normal people and families in evidence. Someday we'll take back California from the dems.
I just read that in addition to all the devastation an evacuation, 50,000 are without power ;(
Man, these damn fires are everywhere. I was just looking at the map and saw the ones further east- hadn’t heard anything about them, as you said, resources elsewhere.
Do the winds pick up again after dark? (I do hurricanes, in Fl) I seem to remember that?
Best to your wife. Sounds like she’s on top of it.
Both fire and floods are very scary!!!

Agreed—I think I have scolded most of them off this thread ;)
I have relatives who have lived there for over 50 years—and they don’t appreciate the stereotyping. As I stated in another post, my son is in Bay area and spouse may be joining him for a temporary job opportunity...all conservatives.
I have friends there too. All conservatives.
However, I think it is so nasty to wish anyone ill based on their politics—no matter how hideous those politics are. Some people are so insensitive and bitter—I actually feel sorry for them.
Hope your sister stays safe!!! I collect antiques, and some truly are are irreplaceable. My thoughts and prayers for all there—especially the seniors and those in hospitals they had to evac...just cannot imagine going through that.
Fregards!
“We no longer have anything normal. It’s all hyperbole all the time.”
We’re seeing dangerous, alarming, record breaking, and unprecedented levels of hyperbole UNLIKE ANYTHING WE’VE EVER SEEN BEFORE!!!!!!!!!!!

California current wild fire information page for status on every fire.
A deep hole. You are there.
“I don’t like how some Freepers wish ill of Californians”
I don’t wish them ill but forgive me if I’m not feeling all supportive and sympathetic to them after some of the utterly sickening comments I both saw and heard from Californians in the aftermath of the Las Vegas massacre.
I have lived in California and visited many times afterwards. From past experience on social media; most people who says dumb things about California have never visited the state.
They really should; its a very cool place in many areas.
