Never mind the disease and slavery wrought by Christopher Columbus' voyage -- or the fact that he didn't actually "discover" the New World.
President Donald Trump's first presidential proclamation of Columbus Day gave only high praise to the 15th century explorer, a stark contrast to the proclamation made by President Barack Obama one year earlier.
"The permanent arrival of Europeans to the Americas was a transformative event that undeniably and fundamentally changed the course of human history and set the stage for the development of our great Nation," Trump said in his proclamation.
"Therefore, on Columbus Day, we honor the skilled navigator and man of faith, whose courageous feat brought together continents and has inspired countless others to pursue their dreams and convictions -- even in the face of extreme doubt and tremendous adversity," Trump said.

... but slavery existing in the here & now somehow gets short-shrift with CNN.
He said all be needed to say.
Blood-thirsty savages living in the Stone Age. Then Columbus showed up and ruined everything.

Like that’s the only bit of European adventurism that affected the world for generations.
No dark history. Europeans discovered a under utilized pair of continents peopled by races that mostly died when subjected to smallpox and other diseases. And we utilized them.
Of course it's all part of the effort to smear American history in order to justify changing the country over to socialism.
There was no country here because the SAVAGES were killing each other, cutting out hearts, etc... It was one tribe after another. Just like anywhere else on the planet before they were a country.
The Left loves to pretend the land was all peaceful and Kum By Ya before Columbus came. That’s complete malarkey.
The Leftist only say that so we hate our country. The Leftist can go to H@ll. We are celebrating Columbus Day.
We seem to adopting a new standard that says, We can only honor our ancestors if every word they spoke was politically correct by todays standards and every action they took resulted in absolute perfection.” Could a single person alive today claim to have succeeded if judged by those rules?
Trump is right in what he has said.
The DOOM and GLOOM network ,,, CNN .
I hope these nitwits at CNN feel the same way now that I felt for the entire time Emperor 0dumbo was in office .
Add all the alphabet networks and I’m in my glory watching all them squirm .
It is perfectly fine to honor MLK, though, despite his ‘dark’ history of cavorting with 13 year old prostitutes.
The media is sick. They all have a collective mental illness
CNN could boost its credibility if all employees renounced their US citizenship and they moved operations to some third world cr@phole, given their view that the US is so suck.
Columbus is one of the world’s first undocumented immigrants to pursue his and his dreamers goals for a better life in a sustaining way.
The Native Americans did not welcome these dreamers who did not look like them from another world, but through hard work and belief in themselves contributed bigly to the economy.
So Obama gave a dark history of Columbus?
That’s racist.
Not mentioned often is that Columbus brought the Catholic faith and the word of Christ to the New World. The liberals dont like to hear that mentioned ever.
