‘Harvey Weinstein’s Media Enablers’? The New York Times Is One of Them
The Wrap ^ | October 8, 2017 | Sharon Waxman

Posted on 10/08/2017 8:19:45 PM PDT by BlackFemaleArmyColonel

A whole lot of fur has been flying since last Thursday, when The New York Times published a game-changing investigative story about Harvey Weinstein’s sexual misconduct that in lightning speed brought the mogul to his knees.

He apologized and took an immediate leave of absence from the company he co-founded, but that wasn’t enough. His board members and legal advisers have been resigning en masse. And as new, ugly details emerge of three decades of settlements for sex-related offenses, he’s quickly becoming a national pariah.

I applaud The New York Times and writers Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey for getting the story in print. I’m sure it was a long and difficult road.

But I simply gagged when I read Jim Rutenberg’s sanctimonious piece on Saturday about the “media enablers” who kept this story from the public for decades.

“Until now,” he puffed, “no journalistic outfit had been able, or perhaps willing, to nail the details and hit publish.”

That’s right, Jim. No one — including The New York Times.

In 2004, I was still a fairly new reporter at The New York Times when I got the green light to look into oft-repeated allegations of sexual misconduct by Weinstein. It was believed that many occurred in Europe during festivals and other business trips there.

I believe it was Friday, (Thursday or...), and his attorney was talking to someone about what he had engaged in. She was admitting to a lot of stuff, but also trying to say he had learned his lesson. He was starting a new life. He just hadn’t had someone sit down and educate him on these matters.

What a pantload she was selling...

Hypocrites indeed. Weinstein has always been a neo pagan, hedonistic, epicurean decadent. He has embraced abortion, drug use, open homosexuality and all its permutations, pornography and the routine exploitation of women, crasss gluttonous materialism and earth and celebrity worship. In short he is a Democrat. It is hypocritical for them to return his money. Is he any different that Ted Kennedy or Bill Clinton?

It would probably be easier to list those media outfits who aren’t enabling Weinstein.

For starters, consider dying in the First World War.

Another angle, I believe this revelation about Miramax spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on an Italian "executive" whose only qualification seemed to be setting Harvey up with exotic Russian escorts probably had much to do with Disney cutting ties with the Weinstein brothers. Because before 2004 Miramax had been considered a jewel, even if small by Disney standards. Yet, in 2005 Disney cut ties with the Weinsteins, expelling them from Miramax (the film company they had founded and named for their own parents Miriam and Max). It is highly plausible to think that the revelations to Disney of the Italy "escort fixer" receiving $400K of Disney money could alone have been enough to blow up the relationship -- a huge public company, especially with the DISNEY name, does not need anything like that, does it??!!!

I traveled to Rome and tracked down the man who held the plum position of running Miramax Italy. According to multiple accounts, he had no film experience and his real job was to take care of Weinstein’s women needs, among other things. As head of Miramax Italy in 2003 and 2004, Fabrizio Lombardo was paid $400,000 for less than a year of employment. He was on the payroll of Miramax and thus the Walt Disney Company, which had bought the indie studio in 1993. I had people on the record telling me Lombardo knew nothing about film, and others citing evenings he organized with Russian escorts.

Remember during the election when Democrats were talking about all these workers that Trump hired to do work in his buildings, who took him to court because they said he stiffed them? The meme was that Trump was an unscrupulous businessman.

Yet unlike Hollywood, where a small handful of powerful people, who all know each other, call all the shots, the building industry is so vast, that even a rich and famous guy like Trump would not be able to prevent a skilled worker with a good reputation from getting work, just because they got on the wrong side of him.

The movie industry deals strictly with entertainment. Nobody has to spend money on a movie, the way they spend money on food, clothing, or other necessities. A movie studio can give the green light to begin production on a particular movie. And then, if they don’t like how the production is progressing, they can put the brakes on it, and focus on some other project instead. It’s all up to the whims of the studio honchos to decide which crappy movie they’re going to ultimately get behind. So one starlet’s movie could wind up being a hit, while another starlet’s movie never gets released.

On the other hand, if a developer puts up a building, unless they run out of money, the building gets finished. If they need a contractor to install kitchens for a certain price and within a certain time frame, they’re not going to say “we can’t hire this guy because he had a feud with Donald Trump”.

Voters ignored all these accusations against Trump, because they know that in the building industry, people are held accountable for their actions. And if Trump was so unscrupulous, there would have been 50 times more people sueing him.

But in Hollywood, much like world of politics, it’s all about who you know, who you sleep with, whose butt you’re willing to kiss, and how well you can keep your mouth shut.

So let the Democrats and the Hollywood A listers get even closer to each other than they already are. The average person has more respect for a salt of the earth laborer than they do for brown nosing careerists working in an industries whose whole foundation is BS artists “working a room”.

Let all these idiot Libs keep scratching their heads and wondering why voters decided to take a chance on someone who spent their life in a private sector industry that has strict regulations that have to followed, rather than another career politician, who has a group of sycophants that have been willing to cover up all their misdeeds during their climb to the top of the political ladder.
