Police found a note in the hotel room of Stephen Paddock, the gunman behind the mass shooting in Las Vegas, that had hand-written calculations about where he needed to aim to kill as many people as possible.
In an interview that will be aired Sunday on CBS's "60 Minutes," Officer Dave Newton from the Las Vegas Police Department's K-9 unit said he noticed a note on the shooter's bedside table after officers entered the room. The note was next to one of the windows that Paddock smashed with a hammer to clear an opening to fire into the crowd from his 32nd-floor hotel suite at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.
"I could see on it he had written the distance, the elevation he was on, the drop of what his bullet was gonna be for for the crowd," Newton said. "So he had had that written down and figured out so he would know where to shoot to hit his targets from there."
Using semi-automatic rifles that he modified with a "bump stop" to increase their rate of fire, Paddock on Oct. 1 killed 58 people and injured nearly 500 others. Paddock, 64, killed himself with a gun before police entered the room to find his body and 47 weapons.
More than 20,000 people were attending the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival when Paddock began shooting into the crowd, which was about 400 yards away.

Right.
All of the concert goers were unarmed as well.
So why did he decide that it was okay to kill the concert goers, but not the security guard, who actually posed more of a direct threat to him?
We have a few of those millionaires in my Town.
Oops. Guess that depends on how you put the headphones on. The genius of this video is separating audios and playing simultaneously.
The qibla direction, is the direction of the Kaaba at Mecca, to which Muslims turn at prayer.
Any number of websites will allow you to put in your address and get the direction to face mecca.
9 down and 11 across.
There are many various ways and directions to use in counting windows in that wall. One way worked out, not that convincing by itself.
If he had been one floor up, you would have counted down from the penthouse roof and still gotten your 9, for example.
The bigger question would be whether the attack date is significant in Islam. Many are.
I did listen on headphones. I listened to that cab driver audio carefully a few days ago and noted the softer sound of that particular burst.
But why would the police put out a minute-by-minute graphic of the shooting which contradicts that by a full 6 minutes?
Not that the police/FBI are to be considered trustworthy, but it is not clear to me why they would put out a false version on this particular point of the shooting of the security guard. At this point, I tend to credit the police version of the security guard shooting at 10:15 pending more information.
But clearly, we don’t have a coherent, credible version of just what happened with the security guard.
He figured half a clip was good enough. Certainly not 200. Guard probably played dead.
Security guard is not sketchy. He and the two officers were busy with a unrelated issue in the hotel on the ground floor before the shooting started.
The shooter busted out the windows sending glass shattering near the valet area. The cops received the call of shots fired at the concert.
All three suspended the issue in the hotel and ran out to answer the call across the street ut the valets alerted them to the shooting from above who were on it because of the glass.
All three ran back in and to the elevators to go up only estimating what floor. The two officers ended up on the 31st and the guard end up on the 32nd. Remember, the elevators are at the center of the building. Each wing is about 250’ long and the room was at the end of the hall with its double doors facing down the hall.
I would imagine the cameras were the type that would alert to movement on the monitor so he knew as soon as the guard exited the elevator and was moving down the hallway. That is when he sprayed 200 rounds down the hallway through the door. By the grace of God, the guard only caught one in the leg.
By this time the officers had made it to the 32nd. The guard radioed to his dispatch identifying the location and that he was hit. It was just about then the shooting stopped.
If you can find it, this is the official as relayed by Randy Sutton, retired from the Metro and the most highly decorated officer ever from that department. He obtained it from his sources inside.
He made some money in RE yes but on his tax return he reported almost all income was from gambling. He was hiding the real source.
Besides a coherent, credible explanation from police regarding the security guard, I would also like to hear a good explanation from police as to how Paddock supposedly entered Brian Hodge’s room (did he break the door? did he have a pass key?), the breaking out of the window there, whether there were shell casings in that room and where that electronic cable under his door connected to inside.
From the pictures, it looks like a sidewalk .... but all the people may have been doped up or drunk.
That exact question or point, which shows the guard getting there 6 minutes earlier then we thought, is the key to figuring it all out. Once you figure it out, it becomes clear as to why they have to obscure things a little. Nothing nefarious. Nothing conspiratorial. They are just protecting themselves and a good Samaritan from future complications. And as much as I hate the FBI, there have their reasons.
Perhaps,
Or perhaps the security guard was part of the plan.
When he owned an apartment project, they did all their own maintenance. He was no dummy.
Apparently he didn't know that the fuel was almost impossible to ignite and if it did, it would go straight up.
In front of the wall where the glass fell is a low, multi-story structure, part of the hotel.
The glass did not fall on the ground. It fell onto the roof of this low structure.
The drop is determined by the horizontal range, and time of flight. You can do this with simple physics equations of motion but ballistics calculators will do this for you. 60 to 70 inches for a standard 308 win at 500-600 yards.
That is what I want to know. The guy that looked like he was shooting point blank at the crowed looked like a smaller caliber weapon.
The cameras were on the cart 10 feet away from the door. The guard was down at the other end of the 250’ hall. The cameras detected the guard, the shooter sprays the hall quite possibly taking out the cameras so he could have blinded himself in the process. We still don’t know how far down the guard was when the spraying started.
It was reported at one time the cops got the guard back to the elevator vestibule.
Something worse than lumps of coal in the naughty kids stockings?
As Paddock’s bursts continued, the crowd became less dense.
I suspect that most causalities come with the first few bursts.
