The powerful National Rifle Association on Thursday backed "additional regulations" on devices that boost semi-automatic weapons' firing rates, like the tools used by the shooter in the Las Vegas massacre.
In a statement, the influential gun rights group's Wayne LaPierre and Chris Cox urged the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to review the legality of so-called bump stocks. They stopped short of pushing Congress to pass a bill banning or regulating the devices.
Still, the NRA's support for more regulation of bump stocks could give Republican lawmakers more breathing room to pass a bill regulating them.
The statement came as bipartisan momentum for regulating the devices built on Capitol Hill.
Asked about the growing momentum for a ban on bump stocks, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the president is "open to having that conversation," but stressed that Trump is "a strong supporter of the Second Amendment," and that any discussion of gun laws is premature.

This is a no-brainer “gimme”.
No loss to us who value the 2nd. And it placates the stupid.
For what it’s worth, Steve Scalise has said there will be no guncontrol laws forthcoming.
Fine, but make the left support full Obamacare repeal, or funding for the wall in exchange for the ban!
Trade ban on any automatic weapons, conversions, or parts, with national recognition of our CCW permits. Treat them like drivers licenses. That’d be a fair trade. Even better with stats that show CCW permit holders commit less crime than cops. Lawful carry is careful carry, good citizens, protected citizens.
The laws of physics cant be amended.

. We need more belt control
You can just file down the sear pin in your AR and when you take the safety off it will fire til the mag is empty. Banning bumpstocks is just another feel good knee jerk reaction.
I’m sending my two senators and my rep a thoughtful email warning them not to even think of backing any further infringement of the 2nd amendment.
I think yoiu’re right. I don’t like it!
Once again, my refusal to join the NRA is validated.
Saw a video yesterday. The guy used a rubber band.
Are they using the RNC as their advisory group? The NRA is knuckling under the Democrat and media scrutiny!
Nope. The bump-stock works by holding tension forward on the front of the rifle and letting your finger rest on the bump on the sliding stock. As you push forward with your non-shooting hand, the trigger is engaged with your shooting hand. Let up on the forward tension, and the bump-fire ceases immediately. Dropping it will do no more than would dropping any non-modified rifle.
I agree. I believe it’s possible that the Obama BATFE might have been... influenced to rule that such things are legal, with the intention that they be used in some act of terrorism, fast and furious style.
“I knew this would happen, kinda had to. I think Trump signs off on this.”

I would expect so, esp since everybody seems to be saying not having one would be a difference that doesn’t matter.
Scalise is just one congresscreature.
The Dems will jump up and down like Rumpelstiltskin.
Of course it's like saying you have to regulate scopes because they make you see better.
If the NRA “stopped short of pushing congress to pass a bill banning or regulating the devices” how in the hell did the NRA “endorse more regulation” on them?
Typical crap reporting from the rainbow peacock network....
