Like an offensive coordinator attempting to find the right way to break through a defensive line, the NFL has called for a number of plays in its efforts to accommodate both their players who feel compelled to protest during the national anthem and their increasingly angry fans.
These efforts have ranged from having the players stand together with locked arms during the anthem, to keeping players in the locker room until the anthem is over, and even to having the team kneel before rather than during the anthems playing. However, none of these tactics have been completely successful, as NFL TV ratings continue to be sacked by viewers who are throwing a penalty flag at the protestors.
Now, according to the Charlotte Observer, the NFL may be ready to call a new play in advance of Sundays Patriots-Panthers game. And its a bit of a Hail Mary.
While its uncertain if Carolina Panthers players plan protests during the national anthem during Sundays game at New England, there is a chance that television viewers wont get to see them as they happen.
In other words, if it offends too many people to either stand for the national anthem or see people NOT standing for the anthem, lets simply not broadcast it at all.
Eric Shanks, the president of Fox Sports, told Newsdays Neil Best earlier this week that his crews plan to return to standard procedure this week for NFL broadcasts. That doesnt include showing the national anthem live for most games because the network normally airs commercials then.
Shanks left the option open, however.
So I think were going to pay attention to events, Shanks told Newsday.
A lot of time is happening between now and then.

Haven’t any members of the Billionaires Boy’s Club, aka the NFL hear of Androids, You Tube, social media, etc? Obviously the head trauma problems among the players is worse than previously thought, and the NFL’s upper mgmt are incredibly out of touch and clueless.
The started showing the anthem at the same time they brought the players out for it because the DOD was paying them for “more overt patriotism”. That got hammered down in Congress last year, they’re not getting that money anymore. Problem is by the time the DOD stopped sending the cash Kaepernick had turned it into a “thing” so they couldn’t just quietly have it go away. There’s a good chance if he doesn’t start kneeling last year they would have stopped showing it and nobody would have noticed.
Better: any player taking a knee is fined his whole pay for that game.
“When they score a TD, instead of their goofy dance - they can take a knee.”
You mean do a Tebow?
“Going back to the old ways is a fine solution.”
Ah, so you think hiding the elephant under the rug, nobody will see it?
They don't seem to have a problem standing for that one.
Maybe they should turn those Military Flyovers into Live Fire exercises.
If it’s on one knee, take it out.
Eventually people stop looking. They stopped looking last year, and if Trump hadn’t brought it up people were basically not looking this year. But they will get bored and stop looking again. The fact of the matter is it’s a boring topic. A couple of players kneeling (which is how it was lost of last year) just ain’t that interesting.
Well, yea - but Tebow did it for the wrong reason - he was worshiping God.
We would never accuse a #BLM thug of doing that!
He’s a member of an oppressed majority!
I don't begrudge these football players from protesting what ever it is they are protesting.
But, one, they are professionals. They are acting way below anybody's professional standards in kneeling. It's nothing but childish.
Two, they are at work for their employers and most importantly, the fans who help fund their salaries. No employer lets their employees act out politically in the workspace without being stopped or shown the door.
They should protest after the game, outside the stadium, without NFL clothing or logos on. Their problem is that they are doing it in a way that rubs it into patriotic Americans faces while at a sporting event that are expensive to attend.
Three, they should not be kneeling in disrespect for our flag, the National Anthem and America, if they are protesting something else. They can't have it both ways.
They can't kneel in protest during the National Anthem, disrespecting both it, the flag and those who put their lives on the lines to insure these whiners have the chance to get wealthy by playing a game and then claim they are not disrespecting those things in the same breath.
This whole kneeling thing is a great example of mass hysteria. No one does the right thing. They just follow the lowest common denominator and make fools of themselves in the process.
Trump is the adult who started the conversation as to why these guys were dissing the flag and country. Are there no adults in the NFL? Roger Goodell is not. He's part of the problem. Somebody needs to stand up to this and come down on the side of standing, not kneeling. Holding the right hand held over the heart and not clenched in a fist held high. Face the flag, be still, stop talking and show respect.
Must no be taught anymore because a whole lot of people don't know what it means anymore.
I’d rather know what they think. It gives me more information to aid my decisions on what to watch. Eventually this is going to spread to every activity blacks take part in.
Too late for me. The players and the league have revealed their true selves. They can’t put the tootpaste back in the tube.
I’m done as a fan. I’ve watched EVERY Super Bowl. This year the streak ends.
>>Wow. They are have learned nothing! This will further enrage people. SMH!<<
Come out, warm up, stand respectfully at the sideline until the anthem plays. Stand respectfully with your helmet/cap off AND YOUR HAND OVER YOUR HEART. Sing along would be nice but not required. Take the field. Play football.
Do this consistently for 10 weeks and we MIGHT join you in 11.
Anything less and we are gone forever.
“started showing the anthem at the same time they brought the players out for it because the DOD was paying them for more overt patriotism.
Good point. That’s some mess they’ve gotten themselves into. Personally, I like standing for the anthem. I am one of those that actually feels a little uncomfortable sitting in a bar when the anthem is playing on TV. I will stand up for whatever reason I can find. I can’t be the only one like this.
