The Donald Trump Era Could Send Moderate Republicans Running for the Exits

Sen. Bob Corker is the kind of politician who typically could stay in the Capitol for as long as he wants. A former mayor of Chattanooga and a successful businessman, the Tennessee Republican was reelected in 2012 with 65% of the vote in a reliably red state.

But Corker announced this week that he would not seek a third term in the 2018 midterm elections.

Asked about the retirement Thursday, Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain, his colleague on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told a reporter that Corker was “not happy.” Were any other senators unhappy as well? “About 99 that I know,” McCain said.

It was a joke, but there was a kernel of truth in it. The repeated failures to repeal the Affordable Care Act and the upcoming slogs over tax cuts and the status of undocumented people brought to the U.S. as children have made the job of a Republican lawmaker less fun lately.

That is the whole idea. These “moderate” flaccid losers are why we are in the predicaments we are in and why we have $20,000,000,000,000.00+ national debt. Good riddance to these so-called “moderates”. I am less forgiving. I believe they are compromised, flaccid, quislings who are in the game only to enrich them selves and their family.

Oh, my. Wouldn’t want the job of a US Senator to be challenging. McCain misses those days with Keating when you could just hold out your hand and be told how to vote.

Yep. It could. But it already HAS sent looney Democrats (pardon the repetition) running for the Prozac.

Repubs now have the Senate, the House and the White House and they are squandering nearly every opportunity to do anything with it.

They could own DC for the next 40 years, if they handled things right and actually tried to govern according to the platforms they ran on. Instead, they have yet to pass any meaningful legislation after 9 months in power.

It does seem that the bottleneck is the Senate and that means Mitch McConnell. Supposedly, the House has sent around 200 bills to the Senate this year and the Senate has done little-to-nothing with them.

Bob Corker mistakenly arranged his political affairs based on the conviction that Jeb! or Hillary would be voted in.

Typical story title from the ultra-liberal yahoo. Moderate Republicans are usually called demo_rats.

Corker is my Senator. I received a phone call about a month ago asking if I would vote for him again....I said Hell No. I wonder how many other Tennessee Republicans said the same thing because he turned out to be a Rino. Now he’s decided to not run again. Wonder why??

In case there’s any question - whenever they say “moderate” to describe a Repub, they mean GOPe/RINO....when they say “moderate” to describe a Dem, they mean someone who will incite violence and murder but who are too cowardly to actually pull the trigger....

“Wonder why?”

He told you why when he said, “The most important public service I have to offer our country could well occur over the next 15 months.”

He’s planning to vote to remove Trump from office, after which he could not be re-elected anyway.
