The Patriots took different approaches as the National Anthem played on Sunday at Gillette Stadium. Many, including safety and captain Devin McCourty, took a knee. Others stood and linked arms.
A league source has told CSN's Gary Tanguay that every Patriots player will stand for the anthem prior to Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers.
Patriots captain Devin McCourty explained that Saturday was an emotional day for him and his teammates as they tried to determine how best to react to Trump's comments, which referred to players kneeling during the anthem as "sons of bitches" who should lose their jobs.

Matt Light: Better ways to protest than kneeling during national anthem McCourty explains what went into decision for Patriots to kneel during anthem Troy Brown and Dan Koppen react to Matt Light comments on protest "We were obviously very conflicted," he said. "We knew our message would be perceived by a lot of people in a way that wasnt what we were trying to put out. A lot of guys felt, I mean, all over the place about the comments by the President Friday night. As a leader on the team, a lot of guys came to me and they didnt know what to do. They just were kind of angry.
"It was good Saturday. We all kind of talked as a group of releasing that anger and not being angry. We were in chapel and a lot of guys talked about that in our faith, God is first. We wanted to come together."
Apologies?
I think they should apologize to veterans, good cops everywhere, the American people, and to the white president of the United States. Because they acted as they did because the president is white, and he called attention to the misdeeds of a few. Instead of agreeing that the few knee lets were wrong, they reacted in anger and joined in the wrongdoing. There is a lesson in this somewhere. Maybe they can figure out why cops have trouble in certain communities more than in others.
Knee lets should be kneelers. Spell check is a pain.
Why do I expect it to be disappointing like the Cowboys were yesterday?
Sorry - Forgot that this is not a Racial Issue.
Humble Apologies El Chipo
How to react to Trump's comments?!!! Trump said it was disrepctful to kneel during the national anthem. It is. What is so hard to figure out.
And Trump has just as much a right to say exactly what I am thinking. They get all triggered about it. Grow up McCourty. You call yourself a team captain. Not real difficult buddy. You either stand for the flag and this county that it represents or you don't. Freaking triggered whimps.
Forget the race aspect. That will just play into the left’s hands. Let’s call them what they are - anti-American bigots. Make it stick and repeat it until it stops.
“Those guys are fags!” Spicoli
You’re correct.
If they know which side their bread is buttered on, they best do so.
My father (recently deceased) was a lifelong season ticket holder for the Bears. He was also quite patriotic.
He would be disgusted by this turn of events, as I imagine many Americans are.
Paying exorbitant prices to watch millionaires whine and complain? Not a sustainable business model, IMO.
Do NFL players all menstruate at the same time?
Message? MESSAGE??? I want to watch football, you idjits, not some stupid “message”! I don’t give a k-rap about you guys except how good a football player you are, and I darn sure don’t want to see or hear any of your darn fool “messages”!!!
Capiche?
Only on weeks when they lock arms in unity.
OT can you ever imagine today’s Sean Penn ever uttering those lines in a movie unless he was playing some stereotypical right wing bad guy and it was hate speech?
The line was said back then for comedic value. Never again.
Blinked.
All they care about is THE MONEY! If you don't believe me, just look at the facts. Last Sunday when the bottled water ran out, Kraft the NE TURNCOATS charged their fans $4.50 for a lousy cup of TAP WATER!!! $4.50 a cup! That's all this is really about: THE MONEY.
I've been a loyal Pats fan for over 40 years. After what Kraft wrote and the team did last Sunday, I am permanently through with the NE TURNCOATS and the National Felon League.
Or the Tampa Bay BuckaKneelers. Seattle BlackHawksMatter. Oakland Traitors. Etc.
Here's the new, "New England Idiots" football helmet...
the panic is starting to sink in....i saw Pete Carroll on CNN...he was tap dancing like crazy, try to find a way out of this...and Anderson Cooper was letting him babble on.....trust me, he looked scared s@##tless..
I was born and raised in Chicago. When I went back home to visit my father as he was dying, some young girl got killed on Lake Shore Drive...prime real estate.
When police are ambushed and shot and killed, I can't really blame them for hesitating to visit certain areas.
The people who have created this mess have only themselves to blame. And they have managed to trap their mothers and fathers in houses they will never be able to sell. I know for a fact that a hard-working, respectable and decent elderly African-American couple living on the South Side of Chicago are petrified to go out at night. Their daughter was my dad's caregiver at a nursing home. Even she is afraid to go to Chicago.
Makes me sad because I love the city I grew up in.
