Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin indicated Sunday night that he did not want offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva to stand for the national anthem, instead of sitting it out with the rest of his teammates.
Villanueva, a former Army Ranger who served three tours in Afghanistan, was the only Steelers player to stand for the anthem. While Villanueva stood in the tunnel, hand over his heart, the rest of the team remained in the locker room in protest of President Trumps comments that players who kneel during the national anthem should be fired. WATCH:
Tomlin said in a post-game press conference that he was looking for 100 percent participation in whatever course of action the team took during the national anthem.
When asked by a reporter about Villanueva coming out for the anthem, Tomlin said, Like I said, I was looking for 100 percent participation, we were gonna be respectful of our football team.
Villaneuva played in college at West Point Military Academy before going on to become an Army Ranger. He served three tours in Afghanistan and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Valor. He signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2014, before later joining the Steelers.
No such wording appears in the 2017 version of the Official Rules
of the National Football League.
Pages 62 and 63 contain only regulations about the enforcement of fouls
committed on the field during game play, and nowhere else does that document
specify anything about the either the playing of the national anthem
prior to games or the required behavior of players and team personnel
during that ceremony.
In fact, the rule book makes no mention of the national anthem at all.
“If you don’t know what you are talking about,
it is probably better to say nothing at all.”
“I hope Trump tweets the NFL flag rule and brings it up in a future talk.”
Another poster has since said the “flag rule” is fake. I will not repeat it again until I find out.
Did the team make the “decision” they Tomlin claims they did or did Tomlin or The Rooneys made that decision, spin it all you want. The Stillerz sans #78 are collectively idiots.
The NFL is done... seriously you are entertainers... shut up and do you job.
I live in Pittsburgh and was at a bar for the start of the game.. the entire bar unprompted cheered for 78 and booed the rest of the team when they came out of the tunnel.
No one wants this disrespectful cow dung... watching people played milliona to play a game, most of them minorities players “protest” their nation as racist is like having to listen to stepford wives bitching their pumpkin spiced latte doesn’t have enough spice and their yoga pants are a little too lose in the crotch.
Hockey is still a white sport, so as yet immune to phony SJWs, and aggrieved racial agitators
My interest in football was barely a tiny flame because of what has gone on. After this weekend, it will be very easy to never watch another game as long as I live.

BTW How do I know what you’re writing is correct?
It was on the internet.
It must be true.
Respectful of the team, but to hell with America. Tomlin, you are one sick coach.
I posted something earlier from my FB page but I couldn’t source it. I asked the moderators to remove my posts and they didn’t. I did post an article from WaPo that had the anthem rule. But could;t find an NFL source for it.
Here is a link to a pdf file of the NFL rule book:

The rule book makes no mention of the national anthem at all.
Great photo of him as a soldier with a great big grin while all the others have their tough-guy face on. He does like to be different, doesn’t he?! I’m guessing he is pretty comfortable in his own skin and can get done whatever task is put before him.
also my conclusion There is a contract with the players union they may have more “conduct” rules. couldn’t;t find that. The rules we found were mostly game rules.
“Its been reported that his online jersey sales today are off the charts.”
it would be quite a statement if nearly all fans who show up for Steeler home games wore that jersey!
“The NFL is a monopoly and its time for the Justice Dept to break it up.”
only Congress can do that since they passed a law giving the NFL a special exception to the anti-trust laws.
Time for all Red State city mayors to pull the teams stadium license.
