As part of a wave of protests throughout the NFL in the wake of President Donald Trump's NFL-related comments, the Steelers will not be on the field for the playing of the national anthem before their game against the Bears on Sunday.
Coach Mike Tomlin told CBS his team would remain in the locker room for the playing of the Star-Spangled Banner.

The irony of having a “unity ceremony” in the locker room as a form of protesting the Anthem’s innate ceremony of unity is too rich. The notion of these wife beaters, girlfriend abusers, serial impregnating, drunken, gangbanging, murdering, assaulting, gun toting, ‘roid raging prima donnas who can’t control the impulse to destroy the careers of others a la Vontaze Burfict and those of his reckless ilk, protesting violence is too laughable for even a late night talk show joke. It took one actual man, Alejandro Villanueva, whose CV puts theirs to eternal shame, to demonstrate courage and quietly and eloquently shove it down their panty waist throats. And to cloak their cowardice in a prayerful posture is beyond the pale for these mutts who wouldn’t recognize a church if it pounded them from behind.
Yes, the dark clouds seem to be getting darker but the brightness of the light of God in His people are getting brighter, and God plus you is a majority.
I believe that despite the darkens, God is moving to restore our Free Constitutional Republic. Freedom requires faith and it will take men of faith to recover freedom by seeing with faith past the darkness of man to the Divine Providence of God Almighty.
Somebody did... same somebody that stood like the hero he is
I dont know if the most effective way is to sit down during the national anthem with a country thats providing you freedom, providing you $16 million a year when there are black minorities that are dying in Iraq and Afghanistan for less than $20,000 a year. Alejandro Villanueva
Three cheers for Alejandro Villanueva! He’s showing himself a cut above his Steelers teammates and the coach.
I see they lost to the chicago thugs today. Good...you ignorant morons.
Damn good point.
Let’s us see if the NFL Commissioner, Robert Goodall, has any.
In the NFL Regulations are detailed descriptions on honoring the American Flag before every game. It describes how to stand, how to hold your helmet, directs that no talking takes place, etc. Most importantly it requires every player to be present.
Guess like so many things in today’s world rules and regulations are selectively applied.
Good by NFL and with it most of the other major league sports monopolies.
If I were a NFL player....I’d start to review my resume and plan on being unemployed by spring of 2019. Clubs won’t be able to make payroll if fans won’t show up in the stands and if networks cut the revenue checks by 50-percent. You an do the math with a payroll listing of forty players and $40 million in salary costs.
For the kids in colleges this season and hyped up on their draft chances? You can figure your bonus chances just dropped by fifty percent.
But all of this leads me to the thought...were these NFL clubs really worth one billion in value? I’m starting to think that it’s a screwed up system that ever convinced the public to believe the total NFL franchise system was $32 billion in value.
I do not know the cost; but THIS has cost us ~ 3,300 Future American Citizens EVERY day for the last 40+ years!
Are there any kneelers in Foxboro?
I hear there is one back east that has a LOT of patriots on it!
Other folks with hands over hearts; too.
Boycott the NFL.
Forbes said it was $85 billion in 2016.
The only value that the NFL really has is as a fantasy way for Americans to momentarily leave behind the problems of day to day life. It’s a small escape from the humdrum and grind of daily life. With that gone, what value does the NFL have left? Not much. There is zero intrinsic value in watching grown men run and throw balls. They don’t produce anything of value other than escape.
Ask yourself what happens if the NFL franchise ‘bubble’ bursts? What if the 85-billion that Forbes talks about...is suddenly pushed to 20-billion? Toss in an NBA ‘bubble’ burst as well....what kind of Wall Street event occurs?
Probably not much. Industries and companies get tens of billions of value shaved off every day.
The NFL is slowly committing suicide.
Who was it that said, “I would rather die on my feet, than on my knees.”...
Change the name to the Pittsburgh “Kneelers”...
If they remove the anthem fans will sing it anyway. If they show up.
