Defense Secretary Jim Mattis hinted that the United States still had military options left for dealing with North Korea, but did not elaborate when asked for details Monday.
Most experts think a military strike on North Korea would invite a devastating response from Pyongyang. The city of Seoul, South Korea, home to 25 million, is well within artillery range of the North, which would most likely use conventional artillery munitions and chemical weapons.
But according to Mattis, the Pentagon has a few tricks up its sleeve that wouldn't involve the decimation of Seoul.

“So we do have Rods from God currently in orbit? Interesting if we do.”
Officially - No.
That said, It would not surprise me if they did exist. A weapon that simple and deadly just seems too good to pass up.
South Korean nuclear-powered tunnel bore machine based on Los Alamos National Lab research? Attack the DPRK installations from below?
If that super-volcano were to somehow blow?
Devgru or Delta surgically striking at the leadership with help from rational individuals inside the DRPK military or civilian government? The Norks version of Valkryie...
We’ll see how it plays out.
I’m not convinced we’re going in to unify N & S Korea.
I share your thoughts there.
I wonder too.
I agree with that. Some variations will take place.
I’m not sure exactly how it will work out, but we’ve seen the military stabilize areas, get them back up to speed, and leave.
For the EMP to pass through dirt and rock it must have frequencies that are at least 30 kilohertz. I am sure that can be done. Dogs would be able to hear it. If the Pig has bats in his cave, they will be sure to hear it with their ultrasonic capabilities of 100 kilohertz.

I prefer Trumps rhetoric than Mattis comforting words to the Left.
I prefer a plan that solves the North Korea problem while not decimating Seoul, over a plan that solves the North Korea problem while accepting the decimation of Seoul.
Some posters here are saying that they want South Korea to take the lead in dealing with the Norks, or even going it alone without our help. Well, I will say that we are far more likely to get their buy-in and support if we at least make a good-faith effort to have a plan to protect their nation’s capital and largest and most important city.
The city of Seoul has a population of 10 million people. The overall metropolitan area has a population of 25 million. That’s HALF of the entire population of South Korea. Seoul IS South Korea. They will never accept any plan that implicitly sacrifices that city.
If the NK testing triggers a volcano, then lets hope it solves the problem for us.
I think if we go through the trouble of deposing little kim we are not going to let China install another puppet commie gov.
I would agree with that.
Seems to me the people of North Korea should decide what they want.
I’d side with them.
Could we drop sleeping gas to cover the entire country and then wake the bad actors such as Kim sitting in their concentration camps, and the entire military disarmed and controlled?
I would imagine there are good arguments against it.
You’re talking about a very broad area with vastly different types of topography.
Even a relatively flat area has natural peaks and valleys.
The concentrations need to be just right and that’s not generally an easy task.
Someone who knows more than I can fill you in better than I. Gas warfare is viable or they wouldn’t have it, but here is a situation where we would want them to sleep, and recover unharmed.
I thought Trump just said “We don’t impose our way of life on anyone” in a UN speech the other day....yep....I’m pretty sure I heard him say that. There’s a lot of bad advice on this thread. It’s like listening to Hugh Hewitt’s radio show.
What’s wrong with full-up nukes? Let’s try these suckers out.
We’d have any foreign policy desire we want in the world for the next twenty years.
I’ve been praying about that. That God intervenes. Since Rocketman thinks HE’s a god, the real true GOD will probably have to waste him. I don’t know.
Yes. My post was tongue in cheek.
