President Donald Trump is moving toward allowing energy exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) for the first time in several decades, according to a report Friday from The Washington Post.
Interior Department officials are modifying decades-old regulations that have traditionally prevented the agency from conducting seismic studies seen as the first step towards drilling, the report notes.
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service director James W. Kurth told the agencys Alaska regional director to strike constraints on a rule that allowed exploratory drilling between 1984 and 1986, the last time drilling was allowed in the ANWR, according to a document WaPo obtained.
When finalized, the new regulation will allow for applicants to [submit] requests for approval of new exploration plans, Kurth wrote in the August memo. Yet oil and gas drilling within the refuges 19.6 million acres can only take place through Congressional fiat.

And the operable phrase here is "OUR natural and national resources".
A total non-effect on the environment. Amazing what the left went through to stop it. They are the most whako of all the leftists. Trump should push their buttons early and often.
Not even close to necessary. Expensive, and others are getting out of the business. We should decide in 10 years whether we need oil any more. We don’t even drill in the gulf anymore, just sapping the current holes.
Darn ... it's reported in the Washington comPost ... it's probably fake.
Too bad ... it's a good idea. I hope he actually does it.
Oh NOOOO. The Polar Bears and everything.
Drill baby, drill! Oh the liberal heads will explode over this.
Alaska Ping.
Drill Baby, Drill!
Just curious what makes you say that? specifically ?
Well thank you Gov.
I’m still mad he didn’t appoint Sarah Palin Secretary of Energy.
He is on very shaky ground legally. Just stop it with the executive orders already.
What? I’d have thought he’d already done that. Did he assign the ANWR thing to Sessions? Just wondering.
[We should decide in 10 years whether we need oil any more.]
What?
Really? How so? These are regulation changes — prerequisites to change in policy.
They need some more flow to keep the AK pipeline running. That is important.
Just a bargaining chip in the game of deals .
Leave it in the ground until we need it. Prices are to low right now. Maybe drill a test well to make sure something is there.
Uh, open it up and let the market decide.
I have a close friend who just spent the last several weeks helping evacuate and then restart several gulf rigs. He would probably disagree with your statement.
We should remove the restrictions and let the market do what it does best. If infrastructure gets built, then it makes it much harder later for the enviro-nazis to shut it down than to prevent new drilling in a future hostile administration.
