President Trumps signature campaign promise, the building of a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, will remain on the back burner, the president said Thursday morning.
The wall will come later, Trump told reporters as he prepared to depart for Florida. Were right now renovating large sections of wall, massive sections, making it brand new. Were doing a lot of renovations, were building four different samples of the wall to see which one were going to choose, and the wall is going to be built, it will be funded a little bit later.
Well, we want to get massive border security, and I think both Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer I think they agree with it. We met last night, as you know, Schumer, Pelosi and a whole group and I think were fairly close, but we have to get massive border security.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a statement Wednesday night that Trump had agreed to support DACA legislation without getting funding for the wall in return.
We agreed to enshrine the protections of DACA into law quickly, and to work out a package of border security, excluding the wall, thats acceptable to both sides, they said.
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders pushed back against that claim Wednesday night. While DACA and border security were both discussed, excluding the wall was certainly not agreed to, she said.
Trumps statements Thursday morning made clear, though, that amnesty supporters will get their wish far sooner than supporters of the wall will get theirs.
In a series of tweets Thursday morning, Trump defended his new support for amnesty.
Does anybody really want to throw out good, educated and accomplished young people who have jobs, some serving in the military? he asked. They have been in our country for many years through no fault of their own brought in by parents at young age. Plus BIG border security.
TBD what happens.
He’s playing chess alright, but the opponent isn’t who you think it is.
Plus BIG border security.
...
Big border security can be turned off with a snap of the fingers. We need a wall because criminal politicians can’t turn it off so easily.
He said both.
“The wall will come later” at about 0.03s on the video in the DC article.
“the wall is going to be built, it will be funded a little bit later” at about 0.22s on the video.
...Just like Jeff Sessions has charged crooked dims?
Starting to believe the "they are drugging him" rumors.
Hey ! Welcome to Free Republic.
The question is how soon will his hardcore supporters figure it out?
President Ivanka Rodham Rubio’s priorities and integrity are coming well into focus for the normal observer.
Keep the faith, that statement is consistent with his campaign promises.
In a broader context, the process is in the design stage which is necessary for determining which is the best wall for the various geographical circumstance and which design provides the most efficient security for various locales.
Trump has been involved in the construction world up close with his money and has an excellent feel for what works. In the political world, he is learning that sensible funding will not be obtained (votes) until those elements are identified.
Right! LOL.
I have patience enough to wait till 2018 when every incumbent is thrown out on their ass, regardless of party affiliation. It doesn't matter anymore who we vote for. I'm voting against all incumbents.
He’s a populist, not a conservative.
we do seem to have gotten a few good judges out of him though.
And regardless of all of it, he was a much better option than
Hillary.
New York Donny is great in the future. In the future he fights and wins.
In the present, in the real world, he caves and folds.
Please stop with the multi-dimensional chess crap.
Bush in Trump clothing.
Nope. This is nothing but lying gyrations from the left.
Trump- ‘Ultimately, we have to have the wall. If we don’t have the wall, we’re doing nothing,’
Ultimately, we have to have the wall. If we dont have the wall, were doing nothing,
So no wall means they all stay forever?
Not to add insult to injury or get too far off topic, but is anyone concerned that democrats/liberals are not going bat$@#t crazy about Trump’s tax plan? I haven’t seen the level of vitriol I would expect.
There was a piece somewhere I gleaned that suggested the new level of “Rich” that had to pay their fair share started at $150K (top 10%). BUT, the tax plan reduces taxes on investment money.
“Does anybody really want to throw out good, educated and accomplished young people who have jobs...”
So now the illegals are taking all the good paying jobs as well as the low paying jobs. This is going to put even more pressure on lowering wages across the board, in every sector, and in every discipline.
The only wages going up are the minimum wage, hamburger flipper jobs.
These “educated and accomplished” illegals should go back to their own country of origin and then apply to come back in. They should also pay back the US tax payers that were forced to pay for their education.
The wall will come later. Deportations will come later. Mexico will pay for it later. Obamacare will be replaced with Trumpcare later. Next up, tax reform...at a later time.
Shorter Trump:
Look at all of these cute, adorable Dreamers.
What kind of evil cruel Democrat would dig in their heels, resist, and deny them a chance all because they want neither strong and secure borders nor a beautiful big wall on the Mexico border
