Traditionally Free Republic has tried to keep truly important topics to one or two threads.
I am creating a prayer and comment thread to parallel the Irma threads and keep down the childlike quips that are slowing down the other threads.
Have a religious comment? Have a relative in need of prayer? Please post it here.
The other threads are slow enough with all the graphics, which becomes more important as people try to evacuate, moving to cell and tablet communication.
So please play nice and move discussions here.
16 Year Pompano Beach Dweller speaking here.
I now live in Massachusetts, but have many, many friends, former students, congregation members, and loved ones in Florida. I have been praying for them for days!
Thank you for starting this thread.
Joining you in prayer today.
In Jesus name, Amen.
thanks for the link.
I am praying!
yes, but my hope for all of us that are inland and a few 100 miles from landfall, is that the strength really dwindles over land.
the good think about FLA is it’s a very sandy state so water will seep into the ground pretty quick, lowering the odds of flooding. St. Cloud is pretty rural too which is good.
Hopefully she’s not alone and/or has good neighbors.
Prayers for all those who are in the paths of these storms.
My son left Palm Harbor about 1 PM today. I wished he could have left sooner but his work was still open until noon. He is on hiway 19 now at Homososa Springs, heavy traffic, slow going. He says he has 3/4 tank of gas. There is no gas at any gas station. I told him I do believe if he can get to I10 he should be OK. It is gonna be a nail biter.
I have been following this thing all afternoon. 930 mlb pressure and 150-155 mph sustained wind. It should do landfall tonight or in the AM around the Keys or Miami but it is so large that it doesn’t matter where the eye hits.
Some say “but building codes require 140 mph standards...”. This thing is 150+ now and still has a lot more of the warmest water it has seen to go. It ain’t gonna weaken, I don’t think.
I will update. Prayers.
Prayers up for ALL in Irma’s path, those trying to evacuate, those staying put.
It’s a trying time and process. Still recovering from the stress of Harvey.
God bless.
Just now. “Life threatening storm surge for Tampa”. 12 to 18 inches of rain on top of a 10 foot storm surge. I doubt there is much of Tampa more than 15 feet above sea level.
Many prayers for Texas and Florida. My relatives in different FL locations have decided to hunker down. I’m worried for them.
Prayers for your dear son.
Yes, please keep us updated.
I 75 which is a nightmare on a good day is a parking lot. They say they are trying to bring tankers in to get gasoline to people but the gas stations have been out of gas for two days.
Pray, Hope, and Don't Worry
Praying helps. There is always Hope. And worrying does nothing good. Try to pray.
FYI: I put on my Facebook page to PACK OUR CHURCHES THIS SUNDAY.
Prayers!!
The storm predictors kind of screwed us here. I told my son this AM that the projected track was off the east coast of Florida and he might be fine staying there. Apparently the business he works for thought so as well but about noon today they changed the track and everyone was caught short.
Thank you so much! We’re gonna really them. We join in!
Prayers from this CT FRper for all the southeastern persons and animals threatened by Hurricane Irma and those who live in areas all ready affected.

She is with her husband and 18 year old son and her mom. She does have neighbors, yes.
Prayers for all (including me). I’m in NY right now helping out mom after knee replacement surgery but my house, car and 90% of my possessions are in SW Florida near Ft Myers. I am all but reigned to a total loss.
Update from friends who drove to Atlanta from Punta Gorda, Florida:
We made it to Atlanta at 2 AM. We were on the back roads from Punta Gorda to Gainesville. No traffic at all. No trouble getting gas. At Gainesville we got on 75 heading north. Traffic was on and off moving 30 mph to 60 mph. Took us 9 hours to get to Atlanta. From the Georgia border onwards we saw 2 license plates from Tennessee, 2 from Texas, 3 from Georgia and 100,000,000,764,831,993 from Florida.
So the boy just called. He is 90 miles south of Perry on 19. He has 2/3 tank of gas and there are NO gas stations with gas. I told him I think he can make it to I 10 and that there should be gas there.
Prayers.
