Dangerous Category 5 Hurricane Irma had a devastating impact on islands in the Caribbean.
Hurricane and Storm surge watches were issued Thursday morning for South Florida. The Florida Keys began evacuating visitors and residents, followed by flood zones in Miami and Miami Beach. Sarasota FL declared a local state of emergency Thursday morning.
Polk County FL Sheriff Grady Judd said Wednesday that law enforcement authorities would check the identities of people who turn up at shelters--and take to jail anyone found to have an active arrest warrant. If you go to a shelter for Irma and you have a warrant, well gladly escort you to the safe and secure shelter called the Polk County Jail... If you have a warrant, turn yourself in to the jail its a secure shelter. Judd also posted that sex offenders and sex predators would not be admitted to the shelters. "We cannot and we will not have innocent children in a shelter with sexual offenders & predators. Period." Judd's statements unleashed a liberal firestorm via Twitter.

Pam is my favorite to take his place one day. She’s a class act. Best AG we have had in years. She all but got rid of OXY in the state for some time, she’s a brilliant lady.
Just saw the latest. Track has moved to the west slightly. Pretty darn close to Key West. I wish someone would go get the cats at Hemingway House.
Problem experts have with looking at the storm for treasure coast is the same as most other areas, won’t be pinned down until hours before the storm, even than big storms wobble.
In my daily rounds I encounter a Father/Daughter who are homeless and living in a Tent area in Orlando. While they both swear up and down have been clean since I met them close to 3 weeks ago (been tossing them a few bucks for food).
Part of me wants to track them down. However given their history of multiple arrests, I keep thinking damn, what if the GPS my locale and some drug dealers wipe me out later. The girl is just beautiful, long blonde hair down to her rear end, great skin, pretty eyes, but she’s showing signs of addiction. I’m pretty sure they have a place to go.
Sounds heartless but this little lady is a felon at 21. The dad is my age (48) and neither can own weapons but still. Sure I could toss him around if he tried to take anything, my concern is him being in trouble with a dealer and saying “I know a nice house and a guy with money”. As of now they don’t know my address, city etc.
that’s one of my daughters tours,Hemingway house, cool place I hear.
Hurricane #Irma has a massive wind field & will "spin down" slowly up I-75 to Atlanta.

Yes, staying in WP; prepped about as good as we could. We have 2 pit bulls and 3 cats so.....who would take us? :)
...by the way, VERY MUCH APPRECIATE the prayers. That is what will sustain us all (contrary to some beliefs :D)
Could y’all please save this particular debate for another thread? Freepers and lurkers come to this thread for breaking news and info on this hurricane. Let’s please keep the signal to noise ratio good, especially this close to a potential U.S. landfall. I will not kick anyone off this thread, just please respect the wishes of the OP about it being an information-driven thread - she has been doing this for years.
Hey neighbor :) same to you! God willing it really fizzles over land or makes a hard right turn way out into the Atlantic
Trump's resort mansion before Irma.
Hurricane Jose Friday morning. St Martin is in the tiny northeastern islands showing directly in Jose's path.
I read somewhere that Muriel Hemingway ordered all staff to evacuate. Cats not mentioned.
At least this time, I don't have trees to deal with. '04 took care of that!
But, thanks for your sage advice!
Love hearing stories like that and love seeing those caravans even more. Will put a lump in the throat and tears in the eyes.
Right up the centerline. I’m hearing hurricane force wind gusts predicted as far north as ATL.
Safe travels! The closer you get to Georgia, the crazier the drivers! ;)
Please keep me posted of Martin Co. status and events. We evac’d my mother from Stuart yesterday to Tampa Bay. Feeling caught between a rock and a hard place.
“I wish someone would go get the cats at Hemingway House.”
Seriously? And what is the good cat-Samaritan supposed to do with the 40,000 cats they ‘get’.
So this is your (completely irrational) priority for a Cat 4 hurricane?
Maybe you should have flown down to Key West and herded-up the 40,000 cats yourself rather than wishing others would do it on your behalf. You could have flown them all to Nirvana using your herds of unicorns and griffins.
40,000 cats? Surely you jest.
