Dangerous Category 5 Hurricane Irma had a devastating impact on islands in the Caribbean.
Hurricane and Storm surge watches were issued Thursday morning for South Florida. The Florida Keys began evacuating visitors and residents, followed by flood zones in Miami and Miami Beach. Sarasota FL declared a local state of emergency Thursday morning.
Polk County FL Sheriff Grady Judd said Wednesday that law enforcement authorities would check the identities of people who turn up at shelters--and take to jail anyone found to have an active arrest warrant. “If you go to a shelter for Irma and you have a warrant, we’ll gladly escort you to the safe and secure shelter called the Polk County Jail... “If you have a warrant, turn yourself in to the jail — it’s a secure shelter.” Judd also posted that sex offenders and sex predators would not be admitted to the shelters. "We cannot and we will not have innocent children in a shelter with sexual offenders & predators. Period." Judd's statements unleashed a liberal firestorm via Twitter.

Don’t know much about dogs except most seem to be very happy creatures and love their owners. I suspect they sense something has changed in the ‘air’....they appear to have an amazing sense of smell....and so changes in weather would be noted.
Saw in some places the birds are gone or in hiding...
When I was a kid and lived about 1/2 from the beach (rural southern CT, olden days....) not that many people lived right on the beach. I am wondering if the gov underwrites insurance for beach houses.
I am the opposite and love ve water and swimming.
Bigger thing I noticed... the eye is back over water, and the upper out-flows are still in good shape.. Very symmetrical.
I was hoping the upper level wind shear would start BEFORE it got back over water. Not gonna happen.
There is definitely a Northward component to the motion now. Key West looks like it’s gonna get a direct hit.

I thought your rules were pretty good. It was a nice way to lighten the mood when we’re facing something difficult.
It’s turned NW. Heading 330 degrees. Line of travel is currently pointing between Key West and Marathon.

When I was really small (under 6) and at the beach so often in the summer, I remember looking out to sea expecting a huge wave... and I do love the ocean. Preferably with mountains right next to it. :-)

You can say that again....I cut them out too....probably college age and teens who clearly make their stupidity well known....and there mouths would appear located in their rear ends.
I tried for a few minutes to leave it showing but had to hide it again, but a few funny comments about the Key Westers taking selfies in front of Irma’s arrival.
