Dangerous Category 5 Hurricane Irma had a devastating impact on islands in the Caribbean.
Hurricane and Storm surge watches were issued Thursday morning for South Florida. The Florida Keys began evacuating visitors and residents, followed by flood zones in Miami and Miami Beach. Sarasota FL declared a local state of emergency Thursday morning.
Polk County FL Sheriff Grady Judd said Wednesday that law enforcement authorities would check the identities of people who turn up at shelters--and take to jail anyone found to have an active arrest warrant. If you go to a shelter for Irma and you have a warrant, well gladly escort you to the safe and secure shelter called the Polk County Jail... If you have a warrant, turn yourself in to the jail its a secure shelter. Judd also posted that sex offenders and sex predators would not be admitted to the shelters. "We cannot and we will not have innocent children in a shelter with sexual offenders & predators. Period." Judd's statements unleashed a liberal firestorm via Twitter.

Tierra Verde has a mandatory evac as of yesterday.
Better get going.
Unless it’s not the Tierra Verde in St. Pete.
Good luck.

I just hope the National Guard personnel are pre-positioned to get where they’re needed quickly. I’d give it one night after landfall before all heck breaks lose. I’m more worried about maintaining law and order than I am death/injuries/damage.
Essential buildings on those bases are Cat5 code built. And the builders would never lie or substitute cheaper materials.
This has to be devastating for the Cuban people. They are in my prayers, not their government.
Thanks.
That means alot.

Will it reach Havana?
Yes, for the Cubans, Trust in God Almighty, not the government of Castro and his minions
Thanks - I’ll look at 2063
Maybe it will provide the spark for them to finally rise up and overthrow the regime.
In thevwatrr vapor and radar views it looks like something is stripping its outer belts away. Mountains of east Cuba and then land again at tip of florida? Colder air belt in north? It’s odd. Is something strange going on?
You just never know with some of these storms. I believe most the “experts” were shocked when they saw the 28’ storm surge from Katrina (many in the area say 30’+). I know of several in the area that were totally shocked they had to get onto the roofs of their homes because of the surge.
Hurricane Ivan was going into New Orleans then Mobile then to Pensacola. We left and kept going east but it kept turning. Sometimes you cannot just go north because you cannot get hotels. We ended up in some of the worst of it. You just never know with some of these storms.
The way the eye has been hugging the Cuban coast, it has probably made landfall numerous times. That was initially the fear for east coast of Florida.
Could be a blessing in disguise for Cuba...they would have to rebuild...stronger better homes...?
“No one really knows”
THAT is the problem, that is tragic and unacceptable. What other profession tolerates people who not only say their job is impossible, but ADMIT they can’t do it? “ Oopsie” isn’t cutting it with people’s lives and homes. Are there any SCIENTISTS working this field now, or is it all Data Entry Computer play? I’d like to hear what the local weather reporters on the Gulf Coast are telling people. Is Miami hearing the same thing as Pensacola? 24 hrs from continental landfall and NO one will say ‘ok-these areas are safe, it’s going here’. And can the NHC-local weather ‘personalities’ be sued for loss of life and property if they are ‘surprised’? If not, why not? Have sny ever been fired for incompetence? Maybe if the public started holding these ‘my job is Forecasting, but we can’t do that’ types responsible we’d get scientific accuracy instead of excuses for incompetence. All the degrees, all the instruments and computers and satellites and still ‘no one can predict’??
Irma could be a blessing in disguise.
The Cubans, as we know, at heart are great people. The regime they have endured needs to end.
I saw on TV that 1/4 did not leave.I don’t have a link. That was this morning.
