A descendant of Gen. Robert E. Lee has stepped down as pastor of his North Carolina church after facing blowback from parishioners and others for his comments denouncing racism and lauding the Black Lives Matter movement. As a minister and newspaper columnist, Robert W. Lee IV, the fourth great-nephew of the Confederate general, has spoken and written countless words, but the five sentences he uttered during MTV's Video Music Awards last week were just too much for some members of his congregation.
...
Lee, who was pastor at Bethany United Church of Christ in Winston-Salem, has long supported removing monuments to the Confederacy and had already drawn attention for his lineage and for his stand against white supremacy prior to his MTV appearance. ...

No, but every news source I have seen describes him as one.
BTW, I am a distant relative of Henry Clay. Just in case there is any controversy about him, I am available to comment.
I’m a distant cousin of Abraham Lincoln. I say he’s an idiot.
Robrt W. Lee IV, not Abe Lincoln.
RE Lee’s distant newphew is a douche nipple.
I have not, but they sound like books that should be on my reading list.
Both are excellent and give a detailed look at Clay’s influence and contributions.
Thanks for the tip!
North Carolina is full of Yankee imports. But while they are cleansing the country of any reminders of the War between the States, how about changing the name of Winston-Salem? Why have a city named after two brands of cigarettes when we should be trying to get everyone to stop smoking?
A 3xgreat grandnephew is what you would call a collateral descendant, if I’m not mistaken.
Why doesn’t he change his name? Maybe he will when he gets married ... just sayin ...
There was a reference to a wife and a toy poodle. I half expected a reference to a husband given the UCC’s leanings.
According to their web site, they started out as a joint Lutheran - Reformed congregation. It appears now that they are neither.
That’s true.
My guess is he was already at odds with his church and it was only a matter of time before they were going to toss him. This provided him a face saving, virtue signaling crisis to ride out on.
“The UCC is a Yankee church. Whats it doing in North Carolina? Musta been carpetbaggers.”
Even more perplexing is the church is in Midway which is about 12 miles south of winston salem in the middle of NASCAR country. The Richard Childress motor sports shop is or was located there.
When Dale Earnhardt was killed there were black ribbons on everything in town.
Winston and Salem were there before the cigarettes.
Wife can trace her family to Robert E. Lee.
So what ?
Certainly not a “descendant.”
