Hurricane Irma Live Thread
NHC/NOAA ^ | NHC/NOAA | NHC/NOAA

Posted on 09/04/2017 2:02:19 PM PDT by NautiNurse

While thoughts and prayers are with our Texas FRiends and neighbors, we are at the peak of the Atlantic Tropical Storm season. Hurricane Irma continues its trek from Cape Verde across the pond and toward the Hebert Box (see below). People with interests in the Southeastern U.S. and Gulf of Mexico should be alert to the forecast path updates for this powerful storm. It is important to note that the average NHC track errors are about 175 and 225 statute miles at days 4 and 5, respectively.

Hurricane Irma originally had a small wind field. In the past 24 hours, however, the wind field has expanded with hurriance force winds up to 40 miles from the center, and tropical storm force winds up to 140 miles from the storm center.

FL Governor Rick Scott reminds Floridians: Families should take time today to make sure you have a disaster plan and fully-stocked Disaster Supply Kit. Florida residents from West Palm Beach to Tampa Bay are heeding the alert. Store shelves are emptying of bottled water.

If you use plastic bins remember to tape over the small holes the manufacturer puts in the handles....

Thanks very much,my thinking as well, hard to convince my son in law they have animals but I’m going to give it a try,i think he may be in more jeopardy there than we are here.but as you say it is too early to get exact tracking.
Not my first rodeo,I’ve experienced every storm in South Fla. since 46.

At your location it is better to be safe than sorry. What are the local authorities advising?

Amazon pantry can deliver water next Monday. Ugh. Husband and I headed to Publix now. Not sure what we will find.

I went to Winn Dixie, in Lakeland, last evening and nary a bottle of water anywhere! No bread! All could very well had been because it was later in the evening on a holiday.

Greenhouse gases do NOT raise the temperature of the planet. Volcanism that weakens the Ozone layer does this.

How else do you explain the warming on the planet in previous 6 ice ages before there were cars?

Furthermore, the entire climate change debate was planned in the late 1950s to bring in world government. It’s a scam.

The planet was here before us, and will be here after us. We have little to no influence over the planet. Yes we can temporarily mess things up that will kill us all like a nuclear war. Nevertheless, the planet will go on without us.

If there was a Category 6, Irma would be there.

I believe that is a Cat 5 now, and she has plenty of warm bath water ahead of her.

The islands may slow her down a bit, but if the eye sits over that water, then she will continue to strengthen.

We just moved from Ohio to Bluffton, SC and new to hurricanes (still asking ourselves why we made this move). Lol.. We were told Greenville SC is the place to go during a hurricane. What are your thoughts?
