Several players plan protests following violence in Charlottesville Colin Kaepernick still without a team after protest last season Bennett says protest is not a sign of disrespect for military
The day after Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch sat out the national anthem, his former team-mate Michael Bennett has followed his lead.
The Seattle Seahawks defensive end, who is known for his strong views, sat with a towel draped over his head during the anthem before Sundays game against the Los Chargers. Bennett said he plans to continue the protest for the rest of the season, and his stance was influenced by the far-right violence in Charlottesville over the weekend. Colin Kaepernick attracted attention when he chose to kneel for the anthem last season as a protest at racial injustice in the United States.
The last week, with everything thats been going on in the last couple monthsespecially after the last couple days seeing everything in [Charlottesville] Virginia ... [I] just wanted to be able to continue to use my platform to be able to speak on injustice, Bennett said after Sundays game.
Managing and coaching these morons would be a thankless job.
standing for the flag during the National Anthem is a sign of courtesy
The owners dont care otherwise we would not be having this discussion.
Freegards
You’re from San Francisco aren’t ya, cupcake?!!!
It is not a sign of disrespect for the military.
It is a sign of disrespect for the country. And especially for people like me who used to enjoy the NFL but also love our country.
It looks like my personal boycott of all things NFL will be permanent.
Winner.
Next up, the Constitution.
I would because I know why it is no longer being played.
The NFL is no longer fun.
I stopped watching the NFL a long time ago.
Geez I am glad this guy is not in Buffalo anymore
It’s not good enough to sit inside the locker room while it is played, like NBA player Mahmoud Abdul Rauof. It’s not a personal decision...It’s about making a public, media-attracting, nationally televised statement.
What’s on your mind? Don’t edit yourself.
> The NFL is dead. <
Not quite dead yet, but dying. Let’s see how the owners and coaches respond. Because if this protest thing spreads - and it will - the owners and coaches will have to respond.
If we hear “You will stand for the anthem, or you will not play and you will not be paid”, then the NFL will have a chance.
But if it’s “We respect the right of all players to express their views”, then yep, the NFL is dead.
If I had to bet, I’d bet we hear mostly the second one. Then no more NFL for me. I’ve always wanted to take up target archery. Maybe I’ll do that instead on game days.
That’s less tickets I have to buy.
“The NFL threatened Texas that there will be consequences...”
ROTFLMAO!!!
Pardon the pun!
Just Blackball/shun/don’t tune into any NFL games this year.
Let the BLM support them.
they’re destroying their brand!!!
Sing the anthem while the players are standing in the tunnel before they run on to the field.
“I want too thank the NFL for freeing up my Sunday afternoons this fall.”
Also, our wives, SIL’s, DIL’s and other women in our lives thank the NFL for making us available to do family things or a few more Honey Do Things on their lists.
Funny you should mention that. There was an interesting segment on a local sports talk radio show here in NYC a few weeks ago about an emerging trend that is starting to get NFL owners and general managers very concerned: head coaches and assistants walking away from the NFL and taking jobs in college football.
It's like that now.......................
