The mayor of Lexington, Kentucky, says after the events in Charlottesville, Virginia, he is taking the steps to remove two Confederate-era statues from the lawn of a former courthouse.
Mayor Jim Gray tweeted Saturday he will ask the Lexington-Fayette County Urban County Council at its Tuesday work session to ask a state military commission for permission to take down the statues of John Hunt Morgan and John C. Breckinridge.
Gray tweeted he intended to make the announcement next week, but the "tragic events in Charlottesville" had accelerated his announcement.

They could have night attacked and won , but they held in place ,until being overrun and forced to retire on the 2nd day at Shiloh. GG survived it all . Upon retreat Breckenridge ( and Forest) held the advancing Yankees back until the main body of the AoT could retire back to Corinth . And these a-holes want to take his statue down ? If I was there it would be over my dead body .

I am guessing, then, that he will not find any opposition to his plan. The homosexual community has had great success in moving into high places everywhere in this nation. Problem is, most of them are far to the left ideologically.
I believe Lexington, KY, has long been known as a welcoming community for gays. It is the home of the University of KY.
The sad thing is that what happened yesterday is symbolic of what happens when people begin to feel that no justice exists for them through the government or legal system, so the only thing left is to take the law into their own hands. When the very symbols of history, good or bad, begin to disappear, it is the same as erasing someone’s genealogy, making their culture a throw-a-way, dehumanizing them and their ancestors and favoring those who even might be lying about what truly happened throughout history in order to destroy and replace any good or evil, therein, that we might learn from, and basing what follows on lies and false history. This is dangerous and many people feel upset about it but keep their mouths shut for fear of retribution from big government and institutions. The common people in the US voted for Donald Trump because they sensed that high crimes and misdemeanors were not being prosecuted and that he was the last chance to turn back dictatorship in America. I fear that the hatred we saw yesterday is nothing compared to what people are feeling and keeping their mouths shut, because it seems, judging from the hateful media and the unwillingness of the Congress to stand up, that going to the polls was a futile act. Is dictatorship already in place through a deep state? That is the question on the minds of those who stay quiet, as well as those who were willing to commit the crime of hurting others yesterday. God help us.

I assume that is what the protesters were complaining about with their “We will not be replaced” chant.
How is it, that America, white America, black America and all that is in between never gave a hoot about the history of the Confederacy, there (brilliant) leaders, their bravery and gallantry as part of OUR COLLECTIVE memory of a terrible civil war?
Wasn’t it a reflection of our tolerance to at least HONOR those southerners who fought and lost? So they favored a wrong idea, but look where it got them? The Confederate flag is passe but it is a reminder of who and hat we were and indirectly reminds us that they’re idea failed.
Isn’t that part of our past?
Why remove statues?
Where will that take us? Will we move on to the Founding Fathers and begin removing them from historical sites because it does not suit our Political Correct agendas?
Where will the mutual respect go then?

Wow! John C. Breckinridge was a former Vice-President of the United States. John Hunt Morgan one of our greatest cavalry commanders.
And Breckenridge was instrumental in the negotiations with William T. Sherman to end the fighting in the southern theater.
Erasing history is easier than you thought especially with school indoctrination. Communists learned long ago to train the children while removing the parents. A couple of generations is all it takes. I look with fear at how we are removing free speech and history under the guise of providing safe spaces and non offense speech. One needs only to look to Canada to see where this is headed. Remove history and you remove the founding principles of this great nation. And that’s the goal, to totally destroy America by making our founding principles outdated so we can join the rest of the world in being under achievers.

You can expect a huge growth in neo-nazism if that’s gonna be the attitude of conservatives to defending America’s heritage. If conservatives don’t do it, other people will and most young conservatives will choose to follow the people fighting rather than the people like you who make excuses not to fight.
Fayette Co., KY, which includes Lexington, voted for Obama twice and voted for Hillary in 2016. Trump got only 41.7% of the vote (9% went to third party candidates).
