Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail Superintendent Martin Kumer identified the suspect behind the deadly Charlottesville Car Crash to the Washington Post.
The suspect is 20-year-old James Alex Fields of Ohio.

Could be some PTSD going with him, since he is a veteran.
“Didnt his town issue them a permit to be there?”
Actually if what I read is true, the town refused the permits and it was taken to court..and a Judge gave them the right to protest.
Pro-tip: drive AWAY from the crowd, call a cop for a police report, and call your insurance company. I don’t care how tough a 20 year old thinks he is, he’ll find out day 1 of prison and won’t be happy about it.
I’m sorry. I am a little confused by your question.
If this guy was driving down the street and was getting pelted by rocks, bottles, etc. I’d say the two incidents are hardly the same at all.
Another website is questioning why the airbag didn’t deploy thus disabling the engine. Based on the videos and damage pics to the car, the airbag most certainly should have deployed. The implication is that he disabled the airbag....pulled the fuse, before ramming the crowd......premeditated attack. They also say the close up’s show no fear on his face and his backing skills seemed exceptional.....professional.
Also, another site shows a pic of a lady who supposedly watched his arrest.....2 suburbans arrived and threw driver into one of their suv’s quickly. She claims the guy they pulled out of the car when found was NOT this guy......darker skinned or Arab.......I know. Just reporting what’s going around on the net.
There were two cars in front of him. Why were they there?
If the guy was able to back away from car he rammed in to, why didn’t he just put it in reverse/back away BEFORE he rammed in to car in front of him?
I saw a vid where he floored it, in reverse, after he rammed car in front of him. Why not do this - reverse out of crowd (assuming they were hitting his car) - rather than ram into car in front of him?
Again, could be I’ve missed some things in the vids/situation.
I’ve been trying to determine the location and it’s proximity to UVA. Google is killing street view. Streets that I had viewed earlier are no longer available.
What I can’t figure out is, why was that other car there, also heading toward the protesters? I mean, the one he rear-ended.
WSJ reports Field being held for criminal homicide.
Yes it is. If they were blocking the road and attacking people, that’s attempted hijacking and you have a right to proceed.
Things don’t seem to be adding up. Are there any links, pics, or vids you can post from this other site?
I think this is the location

There is absolutely NO JUSTIFICATION for this mans actions. None whatsoever. He should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Exactly!
Strange....Google pulling street views, Twitter pulling tweets (of first guy suspected). Hmmmm.
This is manslaughter, he’ll get two to five. Or maybe he’ll get off - they have no right to block the road.
Lot going on in that picture...
He is only 20—and was listed as active duty for slightly less than four months. That probably indicates that he was discharged other than the most typical way—my guess is that the military found him unfit for active service.
