Trump pushes out Priebus, names DHS’ Kelly WH chief of staff

WASHINGTON (AP) — His White House in turmoil, President Donald Trump abruptly announced late Friday he was appointing Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly to be his chief of staff, ending the tumultuous six-month tenure of Reince Priebus.

After months of speculation about Priebus’ fate, Trump tweeted his decision just as he landed in Washington after a speech in New York in which he lavishly praised Kelly’s performance at Homeland Security.

Priebus, the former Republican National Committee head, was the frequent target of rumors about his job security amid infighting and confusion within the White House and a long whisper campaign by Trump allies. Then, he was the subject of a remarkable public rebuke on Thursday by the new White House communications director.

Priebus told allies that he had offered his resignation to Trump on Thursday.

Trump’s announcement on Twitter said, “I am pleased to inform you that I have just named General/Secretary John F Kelly as White House Chief of Staff. He is a Great American … and a Great Leader. John has also done a spectacular job at Homeland Security. He has been a true star of my Administration.”

That is the way I see it with not only Pribus but others who have been replaced as well. This changing of staff seems like a good thing if for no other reason than it keeps the media shaken up and they have to continually adjust to new Trump appointees. They cannot count on hounding anybody to the point they become ineffective in their jobs. Good people are available for any position that Pres Trump needs to fill so nobody should take their job for granted. Pres Trump hires must not have divided loyalties or they will not last long.

Hopefully, he won’t replace Sessions. He’s doing a good job on illegal immigration and gangs.

I think Sessions is not going anywhere. It looks like he is starting to go after the swamp dwellers himself.

“Priebus gone.” Way over due. KNX News Radio had the news about Priebus at 3pm today. Winning. And why does KNX Radio care? I remember a Freeper here saying that the Trump Administration knows how to control the media. True.

“His White House in turmoil, President Donald Trump...”

I can’t help but feel Trump knew all along Priebus was a little weasel and put him that COS position so he could expose him and then rid of him for good.

Just a feeling.

The media has literally written Trump is in turmoil/pandemonium/anarchy/disarray/meltdown/etc. every week for like twenty-five months straight now.

Yep every week during the election had a new reason why Trump would be replaced as the head of the ticket

That, too. I believe Priebus was good for Congress for a time and he is an example of “trying” an Establishment Republican and well, it didn’t work out so...

“That stops up a big leak.”

That’s certainly the rumor. Wonder how many more there are. Bet each one will be surprised when they get identified.

I’ve a feeling that this weekend and next is going to see an old fashioned house cleaning. The RATs will refer to it as the night of the long knifes especially if charges are filled.

That Sara Carter has more inside tracks on good Intel than any reporter I can remember - and it’s damn time the reporting is beneficial to US!

Yep - Reince put the RNC in Trump’s camp and was rewarded with the opportunity. Now it’s time for some real warriors to be put on the payroll.

Big John Kelly is a ‘star of the administration, a great guy, etc.’ That means he has about two months before Trump starts tweeting about him and playing the Sessions card on him. Pres needs to focus on getting his judges in place rather than playing musical chairs with his staff.

I expect you're right. However given what we are actually seeing play out in DC, I'm impressed all the same. :)

>> President Trump needs to keep Bannon <<

After Scaraooch's public diss of Bannon, maybe the POTUS should just lock Bannon and Scaramooch in a cage and let 'em fight it out, mano-a-mano as they say in Tony's ancestral land.

Otherwise, it's hard for me to imagine how Bannon can maintain his self-dignity if he sticks around in a WH that gives Scaramooch an exalted position.

>> he has about two months before Trump starts tweeting about him and playing the Sessions card on him <<

You may be able to diss a Sessions in public all day-long without major consequences. I just dunno.

But I’m pretty sure that when it comes to a combat-tested Marine four-star, you diss him at your own peril. He’s not likely to take it lying down, nor will his fellow Marines.
