OH, ELON. BUILDING INFRASTRUCTURE FOR THE HYPERLOOP DOESN'T WORK LIKE THAT

Is this … is this really happening?

On Wednesday morning, Elon Musk made a strange announcement on Twitter: His Boring Company (yes, that's what it's called) had received “verbal government approval” to build an underground hyperloop, he said. The maglev-powered train thing would pass through New York, Philadelphia, and Baltimore before terminating in good old swampy Washington, DC. All in twenty-nine minutes.

It sounded momentous—but “verbal government approval” isn’t a thing. A White House spokesperson said the administration had conducted “positive conversations” with Musk and Boring Company executives, but declined to comment beyond that.

This snake-oil-salesman reminds me of Burt Lancaster in Elmer Gantry.

I was doing this in and around Dallas Texas so I’m sure you’re correct about the depth along the east coast they can go as deep as they need to go , but I was familiar with work in Texas mostly shallow work

“The expense of crew and terminals will be eliminated.”

Crews are one of the cheapest parts of the entire airline cost. Ignorance of airline business is what makes people say what you did.

Well, howdy neighbor,
I’m in the Dallas area as well. Live in an unincorporated community up on the northern periphery of the metroplex. You’re probably right about that. Probably the biggest risk in Texas when tunneling is hitting old abandoned oil and gas wells.

Yes... The train is not going to Boston (No MA or CT) and although I-95 goes through Delaware, there’s no reason for the train to do so; I-95 is veering to reach the ports on the Delaware, the train is going to city center to city center.

Yeah hello, I live in East Texas now Longview.
No even back then there was a lot of infrastructure below ground. There was an engineering crew that their full-time job was going around and and identifying objects and obstacles and informing the crews so they wouldn’t hit hit anything. it was a major job.

“You are Ignorance of airline business is what makes people say what you did.”

You are one arrogant sob. Must be real fun to be around.

The cost of crews, when spread across 300-500 passengers, may not be significant, but try to fly one person with a crew of three!

You are being so foolish, I suspect you have some connection to the debate — are you a pilot per chance?

Regardless, I’m done with you and your rudeness.

He is overleveraging.

Boring company may be overleveraging. Elon, like Trump, will be just fine.

Liberals are excited about the hyperloop, because, it’s from their “genius”, Elon Musk. He built the Tesla EV, which everybody wants and needs one, especially when government subsidies will make them “affordable”.

Then, there is the liberal promise, which Elon has mentioned too, that, it’s one way to get rid of fossil fuels. That excites liberals all over the land, and so, many liberal states and municipalities might get on-board and help fast-forward the hyperloop.

The whole project is mostly hype, and people are loopy about it, except those that are more practical and reasonable.

The biggest oddity surrounding people’s god-like worshiping of Musk, is that, he hasn’t really had an original idea of his own, with any of “his” projects.

Tesla is an EV, and the EV idea has been around for many decades, even before the combustion engine vehicles. The Mars trips are ideas that have been in people’s minds for decades too. Hyperloop is just maglev “cannisters” in vacuum tubes, and that idea has been kicking around for decades too. Musk is being listened to because, he was successful with an internet company, from which he made billions, and nowadays, your a hero and a genius if you get involved in any major and successful technology and/or software company.

The Hoover Dam may have been the last major civil engineering project to ever finish on-time & under-budget. Musk loves government “partnerships”. His business model depends on it. So I don’t imagine keeping to a budget or timetable is too high on his priority list.

Perhaps someone saying “That sounds like a good idea” constitutes “verbal government approval” in his mind.

Another venture the phony and miner Musk will be seeking to further mine the public treasuries for.

The primary product of all of these Musk companies is subsidy.

I think it has to do with protecting Washington DC.

Also, during the Civil War, they used to unload the troop trains on one side of town and march the troops through Baltimore, then load them up again on the other side of town, which did a lot to quell the unrest in the city.

Plus the Hyperloop will never pay out, because it will be obsolete as soon as I can get around to finishing my tele-transport machine. I’m only about $2 billion away from wrapping it up.

Yes, but do you have verbal approval from the government?
