Allison and Michael Busam recently took their three daughters, ages 11, 9 and 7, to a school fair near their home in Summit, N.J., where they found a teacher they knew sitting on the bench in a dunking booth. He was promptly dunked three times.
The soggy teacher told the Busams he was attending his reunion at Summit High School that night. Since moving to Summit from Hoboken 10 years ago, the Busams hear stories like that all the time.
I know a million people here who grew up here, Ms. Busam said.
Summit, a city of around 21,000 with a small-town feel in Union County, is a desirable place to live, with prices to match: About a third of the nearly 100 homes on the market are listed for $1 million to $2 million, and bidding wars are commonplace. But people who find their way to Summit, drawn by its highly regarded schools, good access to highways and convenient commute, often stay.

I think that’s about an hour from my house on Staten Island.
It’s a nice suburb, but it is VERY expensive.
Bring your wallet. I have family that live up there and in neighboring Short Hills...it is a beautiful area. Conveniently located to NYC. But loaded with idiotic, snotty liberals, and ridiculously expensive.
I have a friend in Summit. His house is worth about $2 million, but his property tax is $20K a year.
I agree, the town is full of very nice people. You won’t find any riff-raff at those prices.
Good luck affording to live there. New Providence, just south of Summit is even more exclusive.
An oasis in a toilet like most towns in a rat controlled infested state
Bro, I couldn’t afford the property taxes on my salary.
As it is, it’s 400k for a nice townhouse on staten island.
“Its a nice suburb, but it is VERY expensive.”
What? You can live in a nice place and raise your family with No White Guilt and no Reparations paid to those less fortunate than you?
Or didn’t these folks get the memo the rest of us got?

The perfect liberal town for the Slimes. Summit NJ.
Why don’t they ever do profiles on the best section 8 housing complexes that a grandmother can raise her crack addicted daughter’s future convicts in??
Jon Corzine is the most notable resident of the town. You don't need to say any more.
If paying 20K in property taxes is a beautiful life - then Summit’s the place to be.
Funny they don’t mention that in the New York Times.
I’m voting for Ho-Ho-Kus.
That area around Summit is becoming way too congested. Rt 78 and 24 are a nightmare around rush hour. Try the Mountain Lakes area around 15 miles north west, much less congested, same access to public transportation and more affordable.
Hackensack NJ
Go rural. Cheaper than the big cities and every one is much affordable.
That’s looked down upon from Manhattan though and a $1 million is nothing - no wonder they see wealthy suburbs in a good light.
Ten miles away is Cranford. Also a very nice town with good schools and a third the price.
Sure you will.
In fact, you will find d a disgusting amount of riff raff on the United States Supreme Court.
Every inch of New Jersey borders hell itself. It’s because no matter where you go, people from Jersey live there.
