From now on, USA, it’s California first
Sacramento Bee ^ | June 29, 2017 | By Joe Mathews

Dear America,

I suppose I should wish you happy birthday. But I’m just not feeling it.

You and I, the United States and California, used to be close – “indivisible” was your word and “inseparable” was mine. Sure, we had differences – I’ve always been a little out there – but California was proudly part of America, and you tolerated our excesses.

Everyone is entitled to a mid-life crisis. But you are having an especially nasty meltdown. You’ve turned against everything you used to love: immigrants, trade, international alliances, voting rights, women’s rights, science, national parks, and treating people with respect.

But today, I look at you and feel like I’m an entirely different place, with different values, even different realities. Who is responsible for our problems?

It’s really not me. It’s you. While I’m the almond-producing state, you’re the one that has gone nuts.

These days, you’re constantly freaking out. And the government you installed in Washington – a government my voters opposed by historic margins – is trying to take away people’s health care, make it harder to vote, roll back environmental regulations, restart the failed drug war, and pick fights with our friends, like Mexico, Canada, Germany, Sweden, and South Korea.

Going forward, our relationship can’t be the same.

Now, I’m not going to march out the door and become my own country, like the #Calexit movement proposed. You are still my country, and I’m not surrendering you.

My people are just as American as yours. On July 4, I’ll still host barbecues and parades for tens of millions of your citizens. Back east of the Sierra, I hope your fireworks are bigger than ever, and that your people will stand extra close.

Maybe all the explosions will wake you the hell up.

Independently yours,

California

Illegal immigrants, unbalanced trade, unfavorable and damaging international alliances, verified citizens only voting rights, women’s rights they don't have?, fake science, land stealing national parks, and treating people with respect but some with more "respect" than others, depending on the color of their skin

In the past SF was the home of screening of immigrants at Angel Island.

Funny, I don't recall giving this cretin the right to speak for me, and I'm pretty damn sure the majority of legal, sane Californians did or agree with his opinions. And just from his picture I would peg him as one of moonbeam's buttmonkeys.

All this talk from morons about how California wants to secede, well the truth of the matter is the majority of californians would love to pack all of these liberal elites into the center of the state, they can have SanFagsisco too, and build a nice big wall all around them.

Hey lame brain remember that Cuba and Venezuela were once thriving economies too before ever increasing tyrannical socialism stifled them down to bondage. Your ‘glorious’ California run by similar leftist values is on a precarious downward path led by the leftist pied pipers in Sacto and dupes like you are headed to the cliff’s edge with blinded happiness.

So liberals can be summed up as: “Play my way or I’m taking my ball and going home (to suck my thumb...)”?

“Immigrants” “Legal or illegal?”

Athenians can be Greeks AND Athenians, but immigrants cannot be either legal or illegal.
In a Venn diagram, “immigrants” would be a closed category. There would be no overlap because they are distinct classes, or their own species.
So there is no such thing as someone being either a legal immigrant or an illegal immigrant: by definition, immigrants are legal. This is an important distinction. It underpins the BS premise of the argument of the left that “We are a nation of immigrants.”

Non-immigrants, foreigners lacking visas or any other foreign nationals here in violation of our laws have their own class. They are called `criminals’.
An “illegal immigrant” can only be an alien here in violation of our laws so the correct categorical definition for them is “illegal alien”.

I don’t mean to be pedantic, but this is why guys like the barking lefty writer here love to apply the word “immigrant” to foreign nationals who snuck into our country in violation of our immigration laws. A crime is the joint union of act and intent. So they know what they did is wrong.
It is a conscious deception on the parts of their enablers to use this word because they know there are still blue-pilled American batteries ever ready to buy the term “undocumented immigrants” (`See, all they need is this itsy bitsy, tiny piece of paper ... then they’re just like you and me, don’t you see? You’re a racist if you don’t.)

My favorite term for criminal, illegal aliens is `criminaliens’. The term illegal immigrant is a logical fallacy on its face. All it does is confuse 40 watt bulbs in the middle, so call them on the term immigrant whenever they try to apply it to illegal aliens.

If the south had not seceded

Your sense of history and the union is skewed

If the south had not seceded.

The South had a right to secede. It says so right in the Declaration of Independence which is the document that legitimized our own secession from England.

Your sense of history and the union is skewed

My sense of history is accurate. It took me years to unlearn a bunch of propaganda that I had been taught all my life. Now I see things more clearly than most.

The South had just as much right to become independent as did the 13 colonies.

I find it amusing on a web site called "Free Republic" the idea of a state becoming independent is considered lunacy. Well I agree with the douche bag. Go, and do it quick so you are no longer my countrymen. AMF.

How can I help make #CALEXIT a reality?

Re: first paragraph

You can make that argument all you want. A war fought over a century and a half ago says otherwise

If you believe that rights are only decided by conquest, then you have effectively made the argument to justify slavery.

I'm okay with California leaving, but they are going to pay us for their share of the bills they have saddled us with.

California has done more than most states to run up the costs of living in America, and they should not be allowed to escape their financial responsibility for what they have done.

That is MOT what that means. It is a simple statement of fact. You cannot point to one portion of the US constitution that gives any faction the right to disunion.

Slavery was appalling then as it is now. The only treason there was a war over it here in the US is becsuse democrat, elite, plantation, slave owners wanted one. They wanted it so bad that they chose to secede because Lincoln was elected. Before his inauguration they had already begun their traitorous actions
