22m Americans to lose cover in Senate healthcare bill
BBC News ^ | 26th June 2017 | BBC News

Some 22 million Americans could lose their health insurance over the next decade under a Senate bill to replace Obamacare, a congressional report says. However, the bill would reduce the budget deficit by a total of $321bn (£252bn) in 2017-2026, the non-partisan Congressional Budgetary Office said. Similar legislation passed by the House of Representatives was also said to be likely to leave millions uninsured. A number of Republicans have expressed reservations about the Senate plan. The draft legislation, unveiled last week, is unlikely to be approved by Democrats, who see it as cruel and unfair. President Donald Trump's Republican party is struggling to secure the 50 votes it needs to get its bill through the Senate when it comes to the floor next week. On Thursday Republicans Ted Cruz, Ron Johnson, Mike Lee and Rand Paul said they were "not ready to vote for this bill", but were "open to negotiation". Mr Johnson said on Sunday there was "no way" there should be a vote on the legislation this week. Top Democrat Nancy Pelosi earlier warned that "hundreds of thousands" of Americans would die if congressional Republicans pass their healthcare legislation.

This is the same BBC that thinks Britain's health system, where one can wait a year for heart surgery and where doctors and nurses routinely go on strike,is fantastic.

There is a lot more than that who DO NOT have coverage now.

I would love to get in the face of one of these C-suckers and ask, How in the hell can a family of four afford O-son-of-a-bitch care with the rates, like in the state where I now live, so dam high?

The fines have been removed; most of these would be those who voluntarily opt out of coverage.

Pure fake news.

22M who are being forced to buy insurance (and thus self-insure) they don’t feel they need MIGHT decide to opt out.

Not the same.

Liberal Lying Liars.

I had a Scottish guy/friend come over to help me one time. He was on the waiting list for a simple hernia repair...for 18 months. The thing was ready to slip, so for his help, I got him into a surgeon and they repaired it for him before he went back.

It went under his traveler health insurance policy they had at that time-dont know if they offer that yet or not.

Good point.

This article from December says 11.4 million are in Obamacare. So how can we lose 22 million?

I suspect they are including medicaid expansion estimates from states that never sign up.

Because of its imminent failure, an equal or greater number shall lose any effective coverage at an affordable price anyway, under the Obamacare mandates.

Obamacare - underfunded and overpriced in ANY economy.

Two points to be made on the whole business of health care. First, health services as administered by professionals are a scarce commodity, and as a scarce commodity, are doled out only on an as-needed basis. Too many people demanding services for relatively minor ailments crowds out the availability of services, and is certain to deny services to those who REALLY have a need for those professional services. Excessive demands drive up costs for those limited services.

Secondly, the responsibility for obtaining and using this very scarce commodity lies with the individual and not with any third party. Taking charge of one’s own health maintenance, by practicing just a LITTLE native caution, and keeping up a regimen of good health habits (no drinking, smoking, or use of destructive substances) plus periodic assessments of what could be changed or improved to retain a relatively good state of health, is incumbent on EVERY individual, not your mother (who, after all, won’t always be there), or a doctor or other professional who sees you for maybe fifteen minutes or so every few months, or your neighbor looking in on you on a frequent basis. There exists any number of instruction manuals for the care and upkeep of that human body you were born into, learn them and use them

And 22 million people, who have ALREADY lost coverage due to sky rocketing rates, will be able to afford insurance again.

How many had coverage until obamacare was enacted...who lost it?

How many don't have coverage today, including those on obamacare in areas where all insurers have pulled out?

How much better would the United States be if the federal government withdrew from the health care business?

"CBO: 22 Million More People Would Be Uninsured by 2026..."

Well, they've been right about everything else...

LOL!!! Look they have no idea what will be or not be in 2026.

GOOD!

the feds already provide health care for fed employees, for vets (needs improvement), for emergency care, for the poor, and for old folks. Let at least regular working age folks choose their own health care, doctors without Obama and Pelosi dictating what they can (and CANT) have

A lot of them deserve to lose coverage. My wife and I pay $16,000 per year for coverage for us and 4 kids, but we never go to the doctor because despite the $16K per year we pay, we still have a $5,000 deductible - so we put off routine care. I’ll probably die of something that should have been caught by regular visits to the doctor - despite having insurance.

On the other hand, my brother, a completely able-bodied and educated 40ish male with no wife and no kids, choses to suck at the teat of the American taxpayer and gets whatever care he wants with ZERO deductible and ZERO premium - much better care than I get. Never even has to think about what things cost.

I hope people lose care - some of them deserve it.
