It is more a case of attitude than ability. When the kid who couldn’t pass a math class becomes a drug dealer he suddenly becomes proficient in weights and measures and calculating prices for x grams at x dollars per. He can figure the vig on the shylock loan he made you, too.

But in school, doing well is “acting white” and thus unacceptable.

Don't, for a second, think this is unique to Baltimore schools. They are the ones that got busted.
