You could count on one hand the red Make America Great Again baseball caps in the crowd here Saturday at a get-out-the-vote rally for Karen Handel, who is in danger of being the first Republican since the 1970s to lose in Georgias 6th Congressional District.
At least two of the hats sat atop the heads of voters from the nearby 14th District. And that summed up rather neatly the struggle Handel and her GOP allies face.
They need to keep Donald Trump close. Just not too close. The president beat Hillary Clinton by only 1.5 points last fall in the suburban Atlanta district. Polls suggest Tuesdays special election to fill the House vacancy left by Tom Price, whom Trump picked to be Health and Human Services secretary is a coin flip.
Many Republicans fear the contest in its final days is trending toward Democrat Jon Ossoff, who has raised far more money in whats already the most expensive congressional race in history. Results will be parsed as a barometer for both parties nationally as they realign in the Trump era.
Handel has offered Trump an awkward and politically cautious embrace. He headlined a private fundraiser for her in April, though he already had been scheduled to come to town for a National Rifle Association event.
That checked the box, Chip Lake, a Republican consultant in Georgia, told BuzzFeed News. Handel accepted an assist from the White House, but she didnt have to do it in front of TV cameras or the kind of raucous rally crowd that Trump draws. (More recently, Vice President Mike Pence came to the district for a low-key fundraiser with Handel.)
I think shes handled it very well, Lake said. Itd be a tricky situation for anyone.

At least I dont need to feel bad if she loses.
You mean you will not feel bad if Pajama Boy wins??? He will be a media dream candidate.
That district, because of the schools, home prices and taxes, has seen a MASSIVE influx of liberals from up North, that are leaving their states in droves for better quality of life, but bringing their Liberal political leanings with them. Of course, they’re blind to the fact that their left political leanings are what caused the astronomical taxes, etc, they’re running from. They’ll just destroy their new homes, the same way they destroyed their old ones.
Ossify almost won that seat, outright a few months ago. People blamed the fact that there were so many people in the field. Handel certainly wasn’t the best candidate, she had name recognition, that’s all.
The Dem’s sued, won and were able to get the registration deadline pushed back. Last I heard, there were 8000 new voters registered in the district. Wonder who they’ll vote for. If Ossoff does win, the post election analysis should prove at least a decent amount of voter fraud, in the form of multiple voting, people illegally registering, and illegals.
Either way, it’s just another example of the Republican’s not doing enough and not caring enough.
You got the picture....friend...right on the money!!!
It’s NOT the $$$$$$$$$$$, stupid.
It’s all the ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, period.
Explain to us what Karen Handel has done to be called a RINO
Are you in Brookahaven neighborhood area there?
Is that in the district
I don’t find Handel as moderate as many here think
Her scrap with Komen was proof of that
Her stated positions are not anti gun at all
What links do you have to the contrary
She’s doesn’t want Trump campaigning in a district he only carried by 1.5% in a state he carried by 7 percent
Trump carried 75 percent of the white vote there
Her district is 73 percent white and way too many Yankee interlopers
She’s being smart keeping Trump away even if we love him her district doesn’t
I keep seeing her bashed here with innuendo
But I’ve seen no evidence of anything liberal she’s done in her political career
She made a stink at Komen over abortion and then quit publicly when they reinstated abortion funding
Somebody educate me
Nobody is ever good enough for us I got that
But she’s no Collins or Snowe
LOLOLOL!!!
Again we agree, but even so the fight goes on and we may need to “shape” congress critters behavior. Its easier starting with a lukewarm RINO than an open border globalist.
Even now Congress is getting a little more of our message and President Trump and his team are good at the carrot & the stick.
If you see a brown lump on the sidewalk that looks like sh!t, smells like sh!t are you going to have to taste it before you're convinced?
Hugh mistake!
I can’t even imagine myself voting for this twit.
She’s making a mistake, that is for sure.
Yes. In the first round there were 17 Republicans. Handel emerged on top I think primarily through name recognition. She has run statewide for various offices five or six times, winning only once. She doesn’t seem to be real strong on any issue and I question her loyalty to President Trump. Still, AssOff is hand picked by Pelosi and doesn’t even live in the district. He has raised about $25 Million but about 80% is from out of state.
I will take a not-so-hard-core-conservative republican vote in House of representatives over a hard core liberal democrat like Ossoff who will vote for Nancy Pelosi for speaker next time. Ossoff is young, and could sit in that seat for like ever. Keep in mind in next election he will be the incumbent, and incumbents win re-election 90%+ times.
I do not believe cutting off my ears to spite the nose.

She won! I’m surprised but glad, I guess. I think right of center folks are safe for now if an “educated” “urbanizing” district like this with all the libtard money can still reject a pajama boy.
That makes two of us! You know as late as Monday night the pollsters (and the media) had pajama boy edging her out.
Do you think they'll try running Pajama Boy again in Nov 2018? After spending a huge fortune and still not winning, I'm wondering if they'll even mount a serious challenge.
