Former cops need not apply, but former inmates are being encouraged by the city of Oakland to apply for slots on the citys new police commission.
A notice recently posted on the citys website for would-be commissioners says, Must be an Oakland resident. Must be at least 18 years old. Formerly incarcerated individuals encouraged to apply.
Barry Donelan, head of the Oakland Police Officers Association, said recruiting ex-cons to help select the chief and discipline officers for misconduct was extremely distasteful.
And what really bugs the cops is that the voter-approved measure creating the commission bars current and former Oakland cops from serving, as well as police union employees.

You get the government you deserve. Oakland As will be the next team to leave.
The Oakland Police Force should quit, en masse. Let those citizens, who voted to have ex-cons ride herd on the cops, do the policing in Oakland themselves. I am totally fed up with the ‘evil is good and good is evil’ attitude.
Inmates running the asylum
Nothing CA does surprises me. A state full of idiots.
Escape from New York kind of crap. Geesh.
The Brain-Rot disease of liberalism at work there.
My tagline is more valid today than yesterday.

Get the hell out of there. FAST!
Do members of the Oakland Police Commission have access to officers’ PII, such as home address, contact info, family members?
It’s CA - nothing unusual.
This is really the world turned upside down. California needs to be put in a straight jacket and in a padded room. That wretched state just can’t be saved at this point.
They'll have trouble keeping the seats on the commission filled since most of them will end up back behind bars. Plus, if the commission meets early in the morning, the ex-cons won't be up to attend. I don't see this policy lasting very long.
They can always apply to the Border Patrol.
