A gunman believed to be a supporter of former Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders sprayed a hail of bullets at a GOP baseball practice Wednesday morning, critically wounding House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and injuring four others before U.S. Capitol Police took down the rifle-wielding assailant.
Scalise was in critical condition Wednesday afternoon, MedStar Washington Hospital tweeted. He had surgery after being shot in the hip and was initially said to be stable.

What did they do, give Scalise Seth Rich’s doctors?
He also has an extensive criminal record going back many many years. Always minor crimes, but indicative of an angry man with much lack of control. Doubt he was part of any planned conspiracy. Too unstable to maintain a regular relationship with other nut jobs. Another interesting fact. It was only because Scalise was on the list of 9 people getting special protection that there were Capitol police there to protect all the other Congressmen.
Congressman Bergman who is ex military was initial person to treat Scalise. Said that he was able to open up his clothing to get to the wound, it was upper hip. He could find no exit wound.

I agree with your comment, NN. That he is still alive post surgery is good news indeed, but his injury (from news reports of its location) is pretty severe. While everybody was reporting today that he was stable but would be OK was IMO "chin up, soldier on" talk. I was concerned by his look as he was being put into the ambulance and am very glad to read that he went to WHC.
I'm still praying, though.
Forgot to mention that Congressman Wensap not only was military but also a doctor. Scalie was VERY lucky to have him there to treat his wound.

Congressman who was first to get to Scalise is a doctor and military vet.
I can’t think of a better person to have at the scene than Congressman Wenstrup, a former combat surgeon.
And I thank God for putting him there this morning.

MedStar Washington Central Hospital— they see plenty of gunshots. A femoral bleed would not be hidden. Femoral arterial bleeds pretty evident, and surgically corrected.
What could be going on is if bone chips went into abdominal/gut and sepsis is happening. Temp spikes and blood bacterial count up. In the Civil War, such a hip strike by a much larger and slower minie ball mean shattered bone and death by sepsis.
Dr. Paul tended to him as he could- there are no details as to what that was or could do with ... nothing but their hands for pressure. He was on plasma in the video to the medevac helo, 4 minutes to the Level 3 Trauma center on their helo deck.
