A bar that wants to maintain a classy atmosphere has released a dress code, which some are calling racist.
The Bottled Blonde, a pizzeria and beer garden in Chicago, recently posted a sign on its doors outlining a lengthy dress code. Here are a few examples from the list of banned items:
No Excessively Baggie, Sagging, Ripped, Dirty, Frayed, Overly Flashy, or Bright clothing. No hawaiian, tie dye, floral, skull prints, or anything else obnoxious. No gang attire (leather cuts, colors, or insignias) and no camouflage. No Embellishments or Statement [attire]. No plain white tees, long tees, denim, flannel or zippers on shirts. Tank tops before 6 PM only. No Jordans, Nike Air Max, or Air Force Ones. Hats must be worn forward at all times.
On Monday, a photo of the sign captioned Apparently Bottled Blonde only wants GAP patrons was posted by user xxirish83x to Reddit, where it received more than 400 comments from people who debated whether the dress code was racist or classist.
As others have pointed out, this dress code isnt to keep black people out, wrote Reddit user LeaveIttoBeaver. Its to keep poor people out. They want good looking customers who have money to spend on $6 PBR. runandkickgirl added, A simplified version of this sign: Dress Code: Hooded white sheets only.

My business, my rules.
Don’t like ‘em—Go someplace else.
That’s the free market.
So Friday is no longer Hawaiian shirt day?
I’m old enough to remember, when girls had to wear dresses to school. Boys had to wear nicer pants and shirts with a collar, no t shirts allowed.
And both boys and girls were expected to wear nicer shoes; tennis shoes or running shoes or the like were not permitted.
Maybe a bit off topic, but the whole area of dress codes has fallen by the wayside in recent decades.
Remember when people used to dress up to go to church?? Seen any of that lately, unless it’s for a wedding or funeral, perhaps??
I think this code helps create a pleasant atmosphere in their establishment. Just waiting for someone to say somehow it’s a civil rights violation to expect your clientele to behave or dress a certain way.
I'm jiggy wi' DAT !
Reminds me of when I noticed that convenience stores in upscale areas have very high prices on cigs like Newport and Kool.
Then it's not really a "dress code", is it? That particular statement could be problematic, IMHO...
While in the Philippines visiting my then fiancee', I noted ALL school kids (and most were from poor families), were in uniform, from kindergarten on up.
Every boy in a white shirt (t-shirt AND white shirt) with dark blue or black pants and every girl in a dress or skirt.
circa 2009
Seems reasonable to me.
Here's a couple of their servers.
No camo? Well, they’re certainly not going to be getting my business. I’m not going to worry about it though, from the looks of the joint they probably don’t have PBR on tap any way.
“No brimless headgear” = No yarmulkes.
They could not buy the free advertising this will generate...
Most people that go around naked in public, shouldn’t.
Yeah ... I’m one of ‘em.
Jiggy as in “jiggles like a bowl full of jello”
I would say they don’t want customers.
They have the right to make those rules. But the left has taken that right away. There is no more private property. Everything belongs to the collectivity.
The owner didn’t mention race.
